Is this something that can be obtained in Korea, and is it very pricey?

Just wondering if the main staple of my diet is going to need to be replaced Very Happy

I buy ground beef all the time at E-Mart. I don't buy the pre-packaged crap. I buy the good meat (in blocks) and tell them in Korean I want it ground up. Works like a charm.

It's 3 ~ 4 times more expensive than back home. It will be a luxury for you, not a staple.

The best deal I've seen is at Costco (Seoul, Daejon, & Daegu) here. $12 for about 3 lbs. The taste was not the best, but not bad.

You'd best forget about buying ground beef and hit a good hamburger restaurant once a month like the rest of us.

I buy beef mince at E-Mart or Kim's Club.

The pre-packed stuff is usually really expensive, because it's Korean cow.

Australian beef is always in those glass cabinet-things and you have to ask for how much you want. I think the last time I bought Australian beef mince, it was 1350won per 100g. That's still expensive, but A LOT cheaper than the Korean stuff.

South Korea has lifted the ban on US beef imports but who knows when you will see it in stores. I would imagine Costco being a huge US company will be the first to get it. When that happens, the price will be more normal.

I wouldn't count on it. I don't think Koreans are into buying beef so lowing the price is not going to cause a huge increase in purchases. The stores would benefit more by keeping the prices high. Confused Sorry, but that's just my guess.

Ground beef is quite expensive as mentioned here. Make chicken the staple instead! You'de be amazed at what you can do with a breat and some garlic!!!

I doubt it'll be 'normal' (as in what you'd pay back home), but a helluva lot cheaper than the current $15 or so per pound.

BTW... that's supposed to take place around the middle of this month. Of course, then I'll be at home... he he he he
Cool

I do what cubanlord does.. I buy a chunk of beef and ask them to ground it up - or I do it myself at home in the liquidiser.

Pork tenderloin is inexpensive compared to NA. 10,000 won gets you quite a large filet. Great on the barbeque!

Isn't that more expensive than buying ground beef?

No doubt the quality is higher, but is the price substantially higher as well?

I find I eat a lot more pork here. A lot more. What I can't figure out is why anyone would make hamburgers with the price of ground beef being what it is. And yet you can get hamburger buns no problem. But no hot dog buns. Hot dogs are way cheaper.

I usually make chicken burgers. You can get ground chicken for a fraction of the cost of beef. And really, there's not a whole lot of a difference except that beef is harder to digest.

That's why I buy beef when it's on sale.

I, being rebellious, don't buy Korean beef anyway, so when Carrefour has an Australian beef sale (something like 8,000 won for 1.2kg), I buy 2 or 3 kg worth to put in the freezer. Letty likes beef, so I cook a lot of beef for her.

This normally lasts until the next time a supermarket has a beef sale!
