Mokpo...
I think it's a great weee city. Awesome location for island hopping in the summer. Kinda shitty location if you like Seoul - but it does have/is getting the KTX.
Seemed to have a tight bunch of ex-pats. (I was just visiting) |

Mokpo's been good to my wife and i. quite a few foreigners for a small sized city. i'm told there's one in every public school now, plus i heard somewhere that it will be the capital of Jeollanam-do, as Gwangju is getting it's autonomous status apparently. anyway, if you need to be near a lot of stuff going on, it's not right for you. but it is a lot quieter and easier going than the larger cities. if you want to be in the south, but still want a larger crowd, try Gwangju. it's really nice, fairly large. on the other hand, Mokpo is only an hour and a half from Gwangju... |

I love Mokpo...but then my hubby is from Mokpo and that is where we met, so I may be a bit biased.
It is a nice sized city though and people are very friendly--in my experience. There are enough ex-pats around that you will have people to hang out with when you need someone to speak English to. It's by the ocean, it has a nice mountain (Yudalsan) to climb, and the food in Cheollado is supposed to be the best in Korea. (Of course Cheollado is more than just Mokpo, but the food is pretty awesome!)
Mokpo is good times! |
