I was just offered a position at Kyongwon U. in Seongnam. The offer is decent and I got a good vibe from the people that interviewed me, but I would like to know more about the school. Anyone here that can help me. Please help me asap as I have to tell them of my decision by 3 pm today.
Thank you in advance |

No way! Are they hiring more than one? I interviewed and they just called me to say I got the job. I accepted. |

I don't know. Maybe they are.
I went to the interview last night and they called me 5 minutes after I left the interview and told me they liked me and that they are offering me the position.
What kind of deal are they giving you?
- I got 2.5 mill for 18hrs/week
- 12 week paid vac.
- 32000 for overtime.
- No housing provided but they will give me key money.
- 4 day work week |

Hold on! I mis-spelled the name of the uni. and I know this makes a huge difference in Korea. The name is Kyungwon U. and its located in Seongnam.
Is that the same your uni. jacl? |

They're alright. Worked there a few years ago. Them not providing you housing could be a drag though. How much key money are they willing to provide you? Have fun! |

Arse.....
I applied for there with an MA,CELTA and 4 years teaching in Korea and Australia....didn't even get contacted.
I optimistically thought my quals would have have got me at least a phone call.....
Hmm.....what do you think clinched the position for you? What do you see Universities as wanting? |

@ Harpeau
I was thinking about the housing and the problem/ hassels that go along with that, but I'm hoping that my wife can hook up a decent job and housing in seongnam through one of the public schools there.
I don't know how much key money they're giving me. I'll have to will ask them before I accept.
Yeah, I got the feeling that its a decent school. They have about 18 native teachers there now and most have been there 3 years. So that's a good sign. |

@ rothkowitz
I don't know why they didn't call you. You seem to have strong academic and pratical background in education. The only thing I can think of is that you have an MA and a CELTA and I have a MEd and professional teaching qualifications from the province of Ontario in Canada. Same as you I also have 4 years teaching experience in Canada and Korea.
If it makes you feel better, I applied to over 20 unis and only 4 called me back for interviews.
How many unis have you applied for? Has another uni called you back? |

Hi,
Actually,if I was interviewing I think I'd have gone with your quals..^^
I've applied for 5 so far,no responses as yet.I do have a high school interview soon...uni would be better(rapport,interest,social-wise,whatnot)
I was wondering though,do you include academic transcripts in your application?I've run low on them so I say that I can show them in the interview.
It is academia we're dealing with ,so,maybe my apllications are considered "incomplete" and therefore disregarded??
Anyhoo, enjoy the area,I'm 2 stations over at Moran finishing my middle school gig. There's ok shopping at Suseo-2 stations back towards Seoul(sour dough loaves at paris Baguette,Oz cheese at e-mart,and a decent vino selection) |

Yeah I include photocopies of my transcript and then when they need to see the original I order one from my uni for them.
usually, I photocopy my degrees, transcript, letters of ref. ontario teacher certification, my passport page, ARC, and a couple of published reports that I did during my masters. I find that this, for the initial step of applying, is sufficient and sometimes too much.
You shouldn't give up hope though, I applied to a bunch of unis last year and I only got one interview and they chose the next guy over me. So, keep looking and applying if you really want a uni job. |

I was only joking.
Hopefully you'll get lots of OT. Like all day Friday or something. |

I applied there about 3 years ago when the Uni. was mass hiring for the new English program they were starting. To make a long story short I was offered a job but after being rushed to sign the contract I felt a little uneasy about joining them. Also, the lady in charge at the time seemed too pushy and not the type of person who I'd want to work for.
I'm interested in hearing about the Uni. and whether it turned out to be a good place to work. |

With your qualifications, don't know why you guys (?) aren't applying to Hongdae or Yonsei. They're paying more than that for fewer contact hours. Think even Ewha pays better for fewer contact hours.
To each their own. Good luck in your new job! |
