If you are all so principled, go boycott Saudi oil, the main driving force behind Islamic terror. As someone above said, what will you acheive by crippling the livelihood of mainly Hindu Balinese? |
Yes, but terrorism now is small potatoes compared to what's coming. Wait 50 years, when the oil in the middle-east runs out and the only natural ressource they have left is sand. Guess who's going to get blamed for that. |
And when that glorious day arrives they'll have nought to throw at us but rocks. What does this have to do with boycotting Indonesia anyhow? |
None. Simply commenting on the suggestion we boycott of Saudi oil. Doesn't Korea get most of it's oil from Thailand and Russia anyways? |

Would you come to Indonesia if consuming alchohol was forbidden and all women had to wear head scarves? Conservative muslims are ruining Indonesia's reputation as a tolerant society. Indonesia's past and present human rights abuses and sectarian violence don't exactly paint a pretty picture either.
You and I know that Bali is more relaxed and tolerant but when the majority of the world hears "sharia law" and "Indonesia " together in the same sentence, Bali will suffer along with all the other (Christian and Muslim) tourist areas.
Why am i here? because i am a fan and a student of indonesian culture, which, i'm sorry to say, is beginning to resemble the Islamic states of the Middle East. Is this the future of Indonesia?

well there has been somewhat of a backlash in malaysia against fundamentalists. I think the same will happen in Indonesia.
If memory serves (and when it comes to that part of the world, my memory isn't the best, I admit), the Islamic parties didn't do so well in the most recent elections in Indonesia. I know they got trounced in Malaysia. |

I cou;n't believe they did this. This WILL come back to bite their asses. And maybe ours, too. Indonesians can be great, Jarkata too, but for now no Bali for me. |

The Indonesian police are not even going to MONITOR Ba'asyir:

Quote: |
State Intelligence Agency (BIN) head Syamsir Siregar said there was no need for the government to maintain special surveillance of Ba'asyir, his activities or those of his Islamic boarding school in Ngruki.
"What for? He's a citizen like all of us, so why would we specially monitor him?"
|
Typical... Indonesians denied the presence Al-Queda linked terrorists until after the first Bali bombing in 2002.
I recommend people who are upset by this to email the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Culture and tell them Baysir's release is the reason you won't be travelling to Indonesia soon. Those who still want to come... bless you...just write an email anyway . Maybe if they realize what it will cost their economy, they'll take appropriate steps.
