I got a letter of release from my former hagwon. I got hired with new hagwon and signed contract. New hagwon says I don't need to go to Japan until my current E-2 expires (May 2, 2004).

As far as I know, Immigration knows nothing about my change of employers.

Is the new hagwon correct? When am I supposed to go to Japan?

Your old hagwan might have canceled your old visa. I would find out as soon as possible..

If your school has gone under, your visa expires that day. You have 15 days to leave the country. If your school has cancelled your visa, you may have overstayed your visa and will have to pay a fine per day over your 15day limit.

Your new school is wrong. It's your responsibility to notify immigration of any substantial changes in your work circumstances that can affect your visa. Sitting there and saying "I didn't know" won't help you.

You are now teaching illegaly. STOP now and goto immigration and find out what you need to do to set things straight. Don't do it now and you may find yourself being fined, given an exit order and unable to get re-entry into Korea for 2 years.

No, actually, your School may be correct.

If you got a letter of release from your old school, it is possible that the remainder of your sojourn was transferred to the new school. The new school would have had to arrange this with immigration. Check.

When the period of your initial E-2 expires then you will have to get a new one.
