This is my first year here, but on Buddah's birthday a friend and I tried to get a flight to Kyoto or Hong Kong. We tried about a month and a 1/2 before and had no luck, even on standby.

Now I want to go to Thailand or somewhere, but I am planning my August trip right now and can't afford two trips at once.

What is your advice...how late is two late??

Almost too late to book for an August trip to anywhere popular.

Chusok is in October this year so you should be booking your trip in July/August if it is a popular destination or you are planning on a tour package.

I just booked my trip for Chusok. Several flights to Manila were already on standby (waiting list only). I would suggest you consider doing it now. You don't have to pay anything if you go through a travel agent.

(Check the sticky for English-speaking agents).

What airlines are booked already?

PAL and Cebu Pacific still had flights when I looked this AM.

I just booked my Cheusok trip for Thailand. W505,000 round trip airfare Shocked on Thai Airways. But it was the cheapest I could find.

Some of the PAL flights were full when I checked, depending on the dates (depending on the date of return, I think). But there are still plenty available if you have some flexibility. The travel agent told me the same thing about the PAL flight. (PAL is Philippines Airline, right?)

Some of the Asiana were on standby as well.

I'm flying Korean air. I usually avoid them if I can, but I'm too busy to hunt down something else right now.

I've heard, though I can't corroborate, that people overbook and will cancel their flights in the last weeks, so you may be able to get something last minute that way.

Best of luck! Have a great vacation.
