My wife and I were EXTREMEMEMEEMEMEMEMEMEMEMMEELY close in becoming hogwon owners. However, knowing that Immigration can just swoop down, and with no reason (besides they are having a bad day) or no validity to their actions, say, "you have to leave Korea because we don't like you"....well .... that isn't my cup of tea. Imagine the money that you would lose if you invested into a Hogwon on an E2 just because Immigration got a bug up their goose.

I think it's great for those married to a Korean person or any F class visa holder. Not E2's. Crying or Very sad

That is a reasonable fear to be sure, no one wants to invest their hard earned money and then lose it all but It is a viable option for an E2 if that person is with a korean that they trust. If you are married or engaged or simliarly coupled the Korean half can hire you as an employee and then pay you the profit on the side. This could work for the right cando couple.

You don't have to get married. If you have someone you trust then you can do it as well, just get your korean partner to hire you as his/her employee. This is a huge oppertunity for someone. The town is growing very quickly and this school is considered very elite. There's a test to get in and they don't just jam 15 kids in a class. For all those people out there who b**tch and moan about crazy directors, scams, dumpy hogwons, no pay, no vacation, etc etc, this is your calling. I have been to the school and love it, its what a school should be, very western and modern and small. Quit the BS and go be your own boss! Smile

They actually own it (Not in Koreans name) and doing ok.. they are going through all the visa issues and it looks like they are good to go.

If you need any help they probably will answer your questions.

Yeah its not like they are just going to give you the keys and leave, they of course will help someone who is going to buy it. They will train you and show you the ropes and all the ins and outs of the buisness.

I am the owner that Octavius is talking about.
I don't quite understand what the other poster (Cubanlord) was talking about. Immigration swooping down and taking away your hogwan? Unlikely.
This is a legal business. Immigration can't ever hassle us because I have a visa. Actually the local immigration office (Daejeon) and the local Education office (Yesan) have been very helpful and tried very hard to help us get set up and organized.
The hogwon is in my wife's name (she is Korean) and I am her employee.
It really is a great opportunity to get away from nasty hogwon owners. The stress factor in my life was gone way down since I became self-employeed.
If you have a Korean partner it is an easy way to make a living.

Of course immigration can boot you out but the secret to that is to just not tell the students or mothers that you own the place. Let your Korean partner be the face of the buisness, then they have no reason to mess with the waygook. There are risks in every buisness and this is one of them, anyone thinking of opening a buisness anywhere in any country should be savvy and smart.

As for a Korean partner you trust, if more of you guys could keep your little fella's in your pants that might not be such an issue. I trust my partner implicitly and we're not even married.

Cuban should really check facts before he writes his opinions. What he has written is wrong and actually could be used against him in a libel case.

I am in the same situation as this owner. My Korean wife and I own an English teaching Academy. It is all in her name and I am on an F2. I was on an E2 until a few months ago.

I don't worry about Immigration coming to take me away. That would most likely happen in someplace such as Cuba. Which judging from a certain sign in name, someone is familiar with.

Cuban should shut up or put up proof. Your posting is a waste of time and energy.

I didn't want to start agrguing with Cubanlord though as I am still trying to sell the hakwon. Thought it better to remain diplomatic.
The point of having my own school is so that I am completely legit. I teach privates, in my own school.
Yes sometimes Immigration does do sweeps but not on legal workers. They scoop up the people working illegally.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, the Daejeon Immigration office has been nothing but helpful to us.
And as for Cubanlord's accusation that I should 'watch my back' ...well, might I remind him this is MY WIFE he's talking about. I won't even dignify that with a response.
