|
|
Hello there,
I am running a summer camp at my elementary school and I have to come up with a "cultural exchange" theme. Basically, the school wants me to teach them stuff and arrange activities about my home country (England).
So far, I have decided to teach them how to make an English Breakfast and do St George's day theme.
If anyone else has any ideas please let me know.
Many thanks |

How about children songs? You might be able to download people singing them so the kids can listen and then sing to the song.
Some form of arts and crafts would also be good. Try this one.

Don't forget fish and chips
show them pictures of Old Big ben
Try the soldiers test, you know, you can't move, stand still like the funny guys with the big hats.
Get them drunk on flat beer. (this acutally is a joke)
Talk about the country's that were once colonized by the British.
etc ... |

A lesson on penalty taking?
Your group team names are all British football team names?
A Pride and Prejudice/Harry Potter costume night?
A Shakespeare drama sampler.
British nursery rhymes - do the kids actually know the meanings behind familiar songs?
A karaoke session with the Beatles?
A Marmite sampling session using degrees of likes and dislikes?
Cooking session: scones and cream/beans on toast? (very cheap to make if you have an oven)
You can get some English editions of the kids' Horrible Histories series in the Korean bookshops - these can provide interesting reading texts if your kids are able to read at a fair level.
You can also get boxed activity workbook/worksheet sets for Wallace and Gromit videos at bookstores here.
Check out the CBBC site - LOTS of resources on British culture for kids and lots of great English language learning activities - eg, phonics and reading if you have a computer in your class:

Perhaps the British Council also has some ideas:
