Well she's done it again. Right now our Kangnam princess "Poosa" is stuck in our neighbour's garage and they're elsewhere as they're having their floors done. They've been back every day so hopefully she'll get sprung tomorrow. We put a big orange note on their garage door.
That's the 4th little predicament she's gotten herself into out of sheer nosiness and catdom. Luckily my husband could lift the door up just enough to slide a plate with some food and water under it for her.
I've initially met most of our neighbours because of Poosa--the first time, not having lived here more than a month, she somehow got up on a neighbour's roof. Had to borrow a ladder from another neighbour to get her.
"Hi everyone, how are you? We're new here--meet our cat!!!"
Then a month later she went and got stuck in another neighbour's house over the Thanksgiving long weekend last fall. Their friend let her into the house thinking it was their cat (similar colors). Luckily some other neighbours had the key to the house.
She's used to trucks so she'll just hop into the UPS guy's truck, or the postman's...thinking she'll get to ride around because she just loves that. I've lost count how many neighbour's trucks and cars she's hopped into if they've left a window open. Crashes out in the back seat hey.
Keeping her inside 24-7 is just not feasible because she'd kill us, so what else to do but have our address, 3 telephone numbers and our email addresses on her collar. I just know one day we're going to get a call from the next state over...something like "She was in our car, how do you want us to ship her back?"
Well this is the first time we haven't been able to spring her in under an hour...so she'll be spending the night in buddy's garage. I haven't officially met those neighbour's yet so it figures this is how we're going to meet them.
!!*%!$*!! cat.
P.S. I really did get her off the street in Kangnam. |

My cat's afraid of the outdoors. If I take her outside without her carrying bag, she will resist. Last time, I got down to the garbage, and she clawed me all over and ran back inside. |

We've taken a couple cats that had belonged to friends (but for one reason or another they couldn't keep) and put them out at our 한옥집. They immediately took off out into the surrounding area, only to be seen once in a while.
Most Koreans I know don't care for cats (superstition, I think, mostly). |

More likely because they've never met a nice cat. Those that have, certainly appreciate cats. |

My cat ignores me until the phone rings and then he's all over me. Weird. But he's good at bug killing so I forgive him. |

It's simple, really: it's a Korean cat, so it *must* eat Korean food... just trying to get back to that ol' home cookin'.

You know, that's not too far off. Having lived on the streets, she's got this thing for rice and bread... which still persists despite all the Whiskas we could possibly give her.
That, and she's not afraid of getting wet at all, and she goes after the squirrels around here like they're her next meal--I'm thinking she used to catch rats in Seoul.
She's also the smartest cat we've ever had--opens doors with lever handles by jumping up on them. She once busted our bunny out of the bathroom like that--how dare we keep them apart!!!--she wanted to play of course--came home to the apt completely turned upside down by those two.
P.S. Poosa got sprung from the garage--we got the phone call very late last night. She looked a little dejected when she came home.
!!&%!*!! cat.
She even looks Korean. Maybe I'll post a pic of her tomorrow. |

Maybe this Korean cat has Mongolian blood, a descendant of the wandering hordes of Ghengis (Temujin is what Koreans call him, his first name. Because they feel familiar to him/proud of him(?)) Khan's cats. If you have an exact time of birth you could have its horoscope done and fortune told. I personally don't know any Mongolian Shamans who specialize in cat horoscopes, but you could check the net.
Cats and Korea. I've seen two kittens today. One was tied on a rope outside a gas station, had a cardboard house. Another is in a box at a motorcycle repair shop. They're very small and seem to be kept for their cuteness. Although they meow alot. Like those pyongari (chicks) keep beeping and are kept for cuteness(?).
Later these cats, kept young in cardboxes, have a yearning for the thundering of hooves, conquest, and the open steppes signing on with Ghengis and his hordes. Like your cat's ancestors. |
