Hello everyone! Before I begin typing my questions, I wanted to thank all the posters here for providing a huge amount of information regarding teaching English in Korea. I've lurked/searched around for information and I had many of my inane little questions answered Smile

Now for a question that I acutally couldn't find an answer to.

Is there anyone that has gone through CDI's training period? While speaking with the recruiter from CDI on the phone, I was informed that only individuals who pass a test after an initial training session can become instructors at the institution. Has anyone gone through this yet? Do you reccomend that I feverishly study my old grammar/English books or am I making this "test" scarier than it is?

Thanks for any help.

When I did the test last year it was only moderately hard. There are a couple of tests actually. Firstly, you need to pass a grammar test. This can be a little tricky and you should study for it. Then there are (I think 2?) tests on lesson structure. These tests are mostly questions about how long you should take to do a certain lesson component or which component comes in which order. Again, you'll need to study, but it's not too hard to pass. Lastly, I believe there was a test about CDI codes/rules.

All that you need to know for the tests will be covered in the training notes and training classes. You just need to pay attention and review the notes before the test starts. Don't worry. For each test, you can take a retest if you don't pass the first one. I don't really believe that CDI wants instructors to fail the tests, because it would be a waste of money for them to recruit people and then not give them a job. I think the main thing is to build an image that CDI hires quality instructors so they can justify their high fees for students. Good luck! I hope you end up at a good branch of CDI. Any problems/questions PM me.

Nobody fails training.

People do quit and runaway during the unpaid training after realizing that there are better jobs out there with more attractive benefits. CDI is open on national holidays and you will be working! There are no additional days off besides the wekend......and there are no winter or summer vacations either like at most other hogwans.

Work work work! Oh, and only 1 way airfare too.

Thanks for the replies/tips Smile I hope I don't runaway screaming after the training period! I actually don't mind the workload as long as I get paid on time and in full. Wink

My MOU for CDI says that I'll be stationed at one of the main branches so hopefully I wont have any issues with my CDI branch. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
