| Wow...I can not seem to find the simplest things in Seoul!! I am wondering where a person would find a broom, mop, cleaning supplies, and a sofabed, used or new. Is there any stores similer to Walmart or Sears in Seoul. I live in Apgujeong, so if anyone knows of any close or far, or is selling a sofabed or futon please, please, please, let me know!! Thank you! |

Take a deep breath robin...exhale...don't worry, you're new to all this, but you will find that 99.9% of consumer goods are made in China, and China is a neighbor, and therefore, they ship stuff here. So, yes, all that stuff is available. Unfortunately, I live in Daejeon, which is much, much, much smaller than Seoul, but I can find it all here to. So, wait for some more posts, but all will be better. Koreans love to shop and have homes that need cleaning products just like us Westerners. |

There is a walmart in Gangnam - Yeoksam to be precise.
Get a cab and say yeoksam-dong walmart and they will take you there.
You will find all you need there.. well, except for the sofabed. |

Is there a Home Plus nearby?
I have noticed that Korea lacks large `drug stores` that sell a large variety of merchandise. |

| There are three costcos in Seoul. The membership is 30000 (maybe a bit more now, don't know) but they would have a lot of the stuff you are use to (in bulk ofcourse, but while somewhat annoying, it saves a lot of trips later). The maps of where they are can be found on costco.com or you can go into the FAQs on this board and go to the food one. All the info is there. |

| I have been wondering where I can possibly buy soju in Korea. I've looked everywhere. I tried furniture stores, stationary stores, even make-up stores and the dentist's office. If a darn dentist don't sell soju, who will? Maybe I'll try one of the local markets. |

| Oh, BTY, sofa bed I don't know. Maybe a furniture store. But I've never seen an open market without brooms and mops. |

Almost all stores in Korea are staionary. However, I have seen some stationery stores that sell soju. Maybe you went to the wrong ones? |

Ya, Apgujeong is a hard place for the Emart/Carrefour/Home Plus type stores.
There is a Kim's Club at Banpo (in the basement of the New Core Department Store, by the bus terminal). Walmart between Yeoksam and Seolleung stations, or the Emart at Yangjae. That's about it. Mops and cleaning stuff you will find at your neighbourhood mom-n-pop mart, though.
There are two Olive Branch drug stores - one on the main road that runs through the Seolleung station area and one on the road form the Cine Plus move theatre to Sinsa station. |

geeze ...what kind of school doesn't furnish your apt with a bed at least?
your best bet might be in the grocery stores in the basements of the department stores in the area (hyundae, galleria). the stuff is probably overpriced, but until you can locate a local super market, it might be the easiest. ask your coworkers where the nearest proper grocery store is. also, some of the local mom and pop convenience stores will have basic brooms/ cleaning supplies, etc. |
