Most of the time I'm not a big fan of Korean style munchies -- they just don't taste like I expect them to. Looks like potato chip. Smells like potato chip. Tastes like sweet potato or worse still fish. But, yesterday, one of my students gave me a new snack. It looked like a light yellow version of cheese puffs, but didn't have a cheesy taste.

However, it did taste really good and surprisingly familiar. After about 4 hours, I finally remembered what it tasted like -- a less sugary version of Screaming Yellow Zonkers! (In the U.S., SYZ were billed as a lightly sugared popcorn treat and had a buttery aftertaste.)

Inexplicably the student, mom, and organic shop storekeeper all translated the name as "Corn Chips." In Korean it is Oh-g soo soo kone.

I haven't been this happy in a long time. :)
