I am kind of worried about my situation. I was recruited by a real life person in my home city. We met on two occasions and I delivered all the required documents. I signed a contract that looks like a good deal. The recruiter was a Korean national and didn't speak great English, so I wasn't able to get in depth answers to my questions. He said he would take my documents to the Korean embassy and he would get a confirmation number. Then I would go there myself and have a visa made. At that time he would arrange a plane ticket.

The problem is he has dropped out of sight now. Last time we talked was 10 days ago. Since then I gave notice on my apartment and notice at my job. He hasn't retuned my calls and I'm getting worried! I'm in trouble if this all falls through.

Could I have been scammed somehow? The guy had a very expensive car and dressed in dark suits both times we met. I'm afraid he might have been some kind of gangster and is going to use my info for identity theft. Looking back on it I realize he was telling me just about everything I wanted to hear and made the deal seem very sweet compared to the offers I've seen on Dave's.

Am I over reacting? Does it take this long to get a visa confirmation number? Have you heard of anything similar?

a lot of koreans, once they dont need you anymore, will just disappear. like the high school attached to my middle school asked me to help find a teacher. my friend was interested, i told them. they asked a lot of questions, then during summer break (last year) i never heard a word, they didnt return my calls, i had no clue what was going on. the start of the next semester came, and they said "we couldnt afford a teacher." but they never bothered to tell me so i could tell my friend.

once they didnt need us, they couldnt even tell us to look for another job, very very selfish. i am not saying all koreans are like this, but i have had a few situations like this.

maybe the deal fell through on the other side, and he is emberrassed to talk to you, maybe he messed up somehow and doesnt need you anymore. maybe he hasnt gotten the ticket and doesnt know what to tell you. maybe it is a scam that he got some recruiting money and is disappearing to keep the money from the school.

i would suggest, if you want to come to korea, look for another job, maybe take some notes to give the police in case this is some kind of identity theft, if he turns up, great, if not, dont count on it. and learn from it...(maybe next time go with him to immigration, dont give him private information without some kind of verification/security)

It sounds like he still has your documents-- is that true? It could be that your visa confirmation number is still in process-- it takes at least 10 days to send everything to Korea, get it done, and have it back, so I think it's too early to panic just yet.

Just to be on the safe side, how did you meet? Do you know any of his associates? This might help with keeping in touch or just getting some reassurance.
