"Let's WALK down and F#$#'em ALL!"
Duvall to Penn in Colors.
Loved that film.
Penn was better when he was a dick, and took himself less seriously. |

"Farewell My Concubine" is my current fave, but when I was younger, I loved "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and watched it over and over.
Movies I can watch again and again include "Shawshank," "Forrest Gump," "Raising Arizona," "The Matrix," "The Producers" to name a few.
I'm surprised not many people are naming older comedies like "The Jerk" or "Ghostbusters" or "Blazing Saddles." They're not super high on my list, but I've heard many people recall them fondly and quote them quite a bit. |

The Jerk and Smokey and the Bandit were two of my first movies as a teen. They were awesome at the time. Throw some age on them and they're still good, just not as awesome as they were 20+ years ago.

Scarface has been mentioned but I'll mention it again. Pacino's best work and Pfeiffer was awesome. As well:
Amadeus
True Grit (I love the Duke)
Spinal Tap
The Naked Gun
Team America World Police (The South Park Guys)
Airplane
A Hard Days Night
The Song Remains The Same
The Wall |

If you want to see a good Michael Douglas flick, check out "The Game" with Sean Penn. Excellent!
Another great Sean Penn flick is "Colors" with Robert Duvall. I can't say enough great things about Duvall. |
Sean Penn is a friggen genius. Most of his films are amazing. If you like Sean Penn, you have to see
Dead Man Walking
State Of Grace
Carlito's Way
I Am Sam

Many people have already mentioned mine, but I liked
Dark Crystal
Though I know this was either hit or miss with people. |

A few of my personal faves:
Heaven and Earth - The Vietnam war told from the point of view of a Vietnamese woman, plus her eventual escape to the US with a GI. One of Oliver Stone's best.
Anchorman - A lot of people are trashing it, but I couldn't stop laughing my ass off.
Dodgeball - More over the top nonsense. Wonderful lines from Patches O'Hoolihan, the wheelchair-bound dodgeball coach include "You're more useless than a cokk-flavored lollipop!"
Dawn of the Dead - The remake made in 2004 was pretty good, but I'm talking about the original 1973 version. Brilliant spoof on US consumer culture told through an invasion of the walking dead. Great stuff.
Bladerunner - Awesome vision of the future, it's hard to believe that this movie predates CGI. I can't get enough of it.
Search and Destroy - A quirky tale about a man driven to make a movie based on a novel written by his favorite cable TV philosopher. An obscure gem featuring great performances by Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, and John Turturro.
And of course, the obligatory local flick....
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance - Screw Oldboy, this is the best movie of the revenge trilogy. Truly chilling, and with a lot less blood. It even includes an evil English hogwon director! |

| Antonia's Line. It's a Dutch film but you can get it on Amazon. Worth it if you don't mind subtitles. |

Let's go back to middle school.
Monty Python movies are still fun. |

Godfather's 1 and 2
Once Upon a Time in America
Awakenings (O.K., so I like DeNiro)
Forrest Gump
Casablanca
Blade Runner (my all time sci-fi fave)
I'm not big on most comedies, but I saw one only recently that made me howl.....Shallow Hal. I laughed my head off which I don't do very often in movies. Jack Black is hilarious. |

Heaven & Earth is a good choice. The critics took a dump on the film, but I think they just didn't like what Stone was saying about America in it. A very great movie I think.
I think Mr. Vengeance was a lot more fun than Lady Vengeance. There was a lot more black comedy in Mr. Vengeance. Lady Vengeance just gave me the creeps. |

| That's what I liked about it, that movie was just so damned creepy even without the blood. I thought Mr. Vengeance was mostly just gore with no point. Great special effects, mind you, but no meat. |
