I`ve no blood connection to any of the teams, so I support the teams I like based on skills, flare, style, consistancy. I liked Brazil, England, and Italy, so after the other`s were out, I was very happy to see Italy win.

Materazzi was interviewed before the match on the best way to handle Zidane.

Quote- ""There's no need to charge him up, otherwise he is capable of splitting the world in two."

LOL

More on that headbutt and why:

"The Italians did everything they could do to provoke Zidane," France defender William Gallas said.

The Paris-based anti-racism advocacy group SOS-Racism issued a statement Monday quoting "several very well informed sources from the world of football" as saying Materazzi called Zidane a "dirty terrorist." It demanded that FIFA investigate and take any appropriate action.

Zidane's agent, Alain Migliaccio, was quoted by the BBC as saying the France captain told him the Italian "said something very serious to him, but he wouldn't tell me what."

"It is absolutely not true, I didn't call him a terrorist, I don't know anything about that," the Italian news agency ANSA quoted Materazzi as saying when he arrived with his team at an Italian military airfield.

Materazzi said: "I held Zidane's shirt for a few seconds. He turned to me, looked at me from top to bottom with utmost arrogance and said: 'If you really want my shirt, I'll give it to you afterwards'. I answered him with an insult.

"What's sure is that I never called him a terrorist: I am not cultured and I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is. My sole terrorist is her...," added the 32-year-old, pointing at his sleeping 10-month-old daughter.

"I certainly did not talk about Zidane's mother. For me, mothers are sacred," he added.

Zinedine Zidane was provoked into butting Marco Materazzi during the World Cup final by a "very serious" comment, according to his agent.

"He was very disappointed and sad. He didn't want it to end this way."

Other reports have claimed that the former Everton defender told the France captain that he should "play for your own country".

You are basing this assertion on the uncorrobated statement of a French anti-racism organisation. Why don't we wait until the facts come out?

What we do know is that the captain of France, in his last game, and the most important one for his country, violently attacked Matterazi and got himself sent off. It was stupidity of the highest order.

No? Jesus, you're like a little child. Italy are world champions. They defended excellently throughout the tournament, beat the hosts and won fair and square against France.

a lipreader employed by Brazilian television channel Globo says the former Real Madrid star's moment of madness may have been provoked by Materazzi calling his sister a prostitute, according to a report on Globo.

Although neither player has yet revealed the nature of their disagreement, Fantastico, a programme on Globo, employed lip-reading experts who said footage of the incident showed the Italian twice insulted Zidane's sister.

Bigverne: i don't deny italians their victory, I'm happy for them- although i do think France were easily the better team on the day. Italy are not so much worthy winners as "lucky winners'. thanks to trezeguets penalty bouncing up off the line. Luck. is all it came down to.

Well, there seem to be conflicting reports about this all over the net. BBC lipreading 'experts' claim that he said something entirely different. None of them mention anything racist, which didn't stop you and others jumping to this conclusion.

Nonsense. When you judge them over the entire tournament, they were won of the better teams in the tournament, have an excellent defence and played together well as a team. They are deservedly world champions, as much as it pains me, as an Englishman, to say that.

That France were the better team is pure opinion, and not supported by stats which say Italy had more possession. And no it was not "luck" that put Trezeguets shot on the cross bar, it was poor shooting. Great players put thier penalties away in the big situations. That is why Italy won.

You've got to be the queerest little child that ever graced these boards. Please keep going, it's a stunning display of immaturity that will cement your reputation as a tantrum throwing tutu wearing ballerina for all time...

Italy...best play over whole tournament, stayed cool under pressure, deserved to win the tournament, and most importantly, are the world champions...it's all so right you've just got to love it, you've just got to get behind a team with so much charisma and flare, it's so satisfying when the best team actually does win by playing the best football. The universe really is just after all...

Forza Azzuri!!!

PS Sour grapes for bad losers and sulky little poofs...
