Article 55, Paragraph 4 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code reads as follows:

"If any player, association or club official or spectator perpetrates any kind of discriminatory or contemptuous act as described by par. 1 and/or 2 of this article, three points will automatically be deducted from the team concerned, if identifiable, after the first offence. In the case of a second offence, six points will automatically be deducted, and for a further offence, the team will be relegated. In the case of matches without points, the team concerned, if identifiable, will be disqualified."

If we get footage of Marco Materazzi actually making a racist remark in the direction of Zidane, wouldn't that mean that Italy had to be disqualified from the WC?

"I did insult him, it's true," Materazzi said in Tuesday's Gazzetta dello Sport. "But I categorically did not call him a terrorist. I'm not cultured and I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is."

Namaste.

Italy won't lose the title, Zidane could be stripped of his award though, I still doubt it...

Provided this video is accurate, I'd say Zidane had just cause.

Whatever Materazzi said, it was probably very unpleasant for Zidane to have reacted the way he did. What a shame. Zizou was a football genius.

A sad end to what was a great World Cup.

That's the whole point, there is no just cause for that action on an international sporting field. In a bar yes, but not on the sports field. He was simply outwitted in a psychological exchange which is part of sport. Headbutts are not part of the game...

I'm curious what language was used. Do they know each other's? Was it the international language, English?
or the Universal language: Konglish?

I don't guilt zidane for that. Not ONE bit. There is NO doubt that the Materrazi said something heinous.
There is NO PLACE FOR THAT ANYWHERE. If you want to talk about class, defending the honour of your parents and family has a LOT more class than insult someone's mother and children.

Thanks. I'm new to the scene. Well, I like watching, for sure, but didn't know any history there.

EDIT: but now that you say that, the Italian was a former teammate? Did they know each other well before?

Class is the issue, and Zidane apologized to any children watching. He's a classy guy. And I'm sure we all agree a legend.
Still it was and will continue to be fun to watch.

I'm pretty sure there are limits though, and extreme profanity etc. isn't allowed. Imagine if it were allowed to become rampant during the game as a psychological tactic:

makes his way up the field...hey mother-fucker get out of my way!
passes it, other guy heads it...yeah I headed that shit like a pro n' yo' b!tch ass couldn't stop it where the *beep* are you running to I already headed the ball and you missed it you b-tch
brings it all the way up...oh yeah you goalkeeper mother-fucker I'm gonna drill this ball right into the back of the net
shoots....F*&KING B!TCH YOU'RE GONNA MISS IT!!
blocked by the keeper! Keeper: Oh yeah, I owned your mother-fucking ass. I blocked that sh!t! And your mom's a wh0re! No son of a mother-fucking *beep* is gonna get the ball passed me, urg! (kicks the ball) F!ck.....(takes a swig of water)

Cause I'm the Buffonnaut, b-tch!

Zidane interviewed on French TV last night..

It is always the reaction that is sanctioned and not the provoker.

http://wc2006.telegraph.co.uk/Document.aspx?id=EA89E581-84E4-46E0-A20E-415F809A150B

He's right too. I count verbal abuse as damaging as physical violence.
This has some relevance to the board!

Materazzi is the football equivalent of a childish attention-seeking troll. See if you can provoke a reaction to get in the spotlight, by insulting someone better than you.

Do you ignore it and rise above? or are there somethings you can't ignore?

I hope that Italy are strippd. If FIFA is serious about its stance against racism then they have no choice. It will be fun to see Materazzi stoned by pissed off Italians. I hate that dirty shit.

Absolutely.

All this talk of a 'career ending in shame'......shut up you people. Who are you to comment?! It's Zidanes career for a start....the only people who'll remember his career as ending in shame are the people who are harping on about it. You wonder if all these commentators have ever played a game of football in their lives.

Is this yet another case of people incapable of any independent thought repeating what they've read in couple of newspapers?

Example:

Quote:
What a shame. Zizou was a football genius.

A sad end to what was a great World Cup.

You were personally sad were you?
