Where is the best place you have gone on a visa run?

I am just back from Cambodia and Thailand for a wee holiday and had planned on getting my visa in Bangkok however my paperwork was delayed and typically it is all sorted today the same day I get back!!!!

Anyway I will have to make a wee run somewhere so I might as well go somewhere good. It has to be some where that wont take longer than 3 days to process so if you can give any good suggestions then let me know.

The cheapest tickets seem to be to FUKUOKA, OSAKA, HONG KONG and TAIPEI so if anyone has a good thing to say about the place and the ease of visa running there let me know. However other suggestions are also appreciated!!

ta!

I've done both Fukuoka and Osaka. I'd rate Fukuoka higher. Cleaner, less crowded, better sites to see, and an easy to find embassy. Unless you have a couple extra days to stay in Kyoto, in which case that's your best choice, hands down.

I did one to Taipei. The consulate is right next to the tall building. The same day I flew in I went there and although she said come back tomorrow, I convinced the lady to get it back to me by 5:00. It is a small office, with apparently few visa requests (There were maybe 13 for the whole day.) so you may get lucky.

While you're waiting for it, grab some free internet at the Australia Tourism Office on a lower floor!

Lots of swimming, etc. within a reasonable commute.

Taipei may be a good choice.

The city is easier to get around than Bangkok, but I think but I'm biased because I know the place. It's also cheaper than Japan. however, Japan is a lot more interesting.

I also liked doing visa runs to Bangkok or Manila which are also cheap places to stay but more difficult to get around.

The Taipei 101 Building is next to the Hyatt and the Australian quasi-embassy. It's a nice place to hang out while waiting for your visa to get processed.

Manila - much more fun than Japan, cheaper, good shopping/nightlife, warm in winter Smile

Fuk - boring, but then I hate spending 2x to 3x the money for whatever for MORE asian 'culture'

Osaka - good shopping, more lively, but $$$

been to SIN/TPE but on biz, not for visas. TPE is pretty good - would get my vote over Japan anyday.

Manila--pain free, you get quick access to the front of the line Embarassed in front of all the Filipinos...great food, good weather...nice people...great shopping...but some areas are very poor and it can be heart-wrenching to see the children living in such poverty...

getting a visa in bangkok is a breeze. the traffic thing isn't an issue because there's a subway stop 2 minutes or so from the embassy.
don't stay in khao sanh rd, ever...it's not even that cheap anymore compared to other parts of the city that have good transport access....stay in KS and you're more or less relegated to that area unless you want to spend 2 plus hours a day on buses / boats to get to more interesting parts of town.
