|
|
Hi....for those of you who remember the situation I was in last time....
The director insists that my ticket is too much money, although my contract says....in plain English (which could be the problem...) that the school will pay for my entire airfare.
Now I am being told that the director will only pay a little over $1000 Canadian and my recruiter and I must share the difference, a total of $442.50 each...my share will be taken out of my first month's pay.
I refused this.
I told my recruiter that I don't want to work for someone I can't trust.
Now what can happen to me?
Keep in mind that I already have my E2 and the school has my degree. |

In the most diplomatic terms, ask for your degree back and for them to cancel your E-2 Visa.
They're jerking you around. Be prepared for them not to return your degree.. or to take their time doing it... so contact your University now and request a replacement for a lost diploma.. usually runs about $65 cdn.
Have they responded with a counter-offer when you refused their latest offer?
Because you can run into a problem if they DON'T cancel your Visa... they can keep your Visa active just to screw you... you'd have to wait a year to reapply. |

Don't worry about it. And don't go to korea. Simple enough until you get the contract honored verbatim. I think the advice to you IIRC was "don't work for this particular school." I mean, come on, you have not even left Canada and you're getting a run around! Even if the school pays the ticket at this time, you're in for a rough ride at this school should you work for them. You should also post the name and address of this school to warn others. Why let someone else get burnt? I have a copy of the sponsor form that ALL businesses sign for immigration. This sponsor form states that the business (school) will pay for ALL transportation and housing cost for the person that they are sponsoring. Before the Visa documents are issued to the school, immigration WILL NOT issue the Visa until a signed sponsor is provided. Dave's site doesn't allow us to scan and download a copy of this form. Wish I could. |

But....I really want to go to Korea...
I just can't work at this school.
What can I do?
I don't want to be in legal trouble.... |

Well, its the Weekend now in Korea, you might hear something tonight if your recruiter works the Saturday 1/2 day or you'll have to wait till Monday.
Don't worry too much, even if the school/recruiter doesn't behave you may be able to get another Recruiter to step up to bat for you. Since you're a Canadian Female, you've got slightly more value in the eyes of Director's and thus very easy to "sell" to schools. So if you contact another recruiter and explain the situation, some will negotiate with the other school on your behalf to get you released from their E2 Visa and to get your diploma back. This has happened many times in the past. |

Also, at this point... since you're so ready to go... you may wish to consider just getting the cheapest ticket you can find and come to Korea, go into Seoul and do a job hunt for a week.
I can gaurentee you'd find a job in Seoul within a week and most schools would likely reimburse the airfare, it would also enable you to get your documents back and deal with the Visa issue. |

You think that would work? Even though my E2 is for the other school? |

No, schools have stolen diplomas before, renegged on Airfare, changed things at the last minute... this is by no means a first time occurance. |

As a Canadian you can enter Korea on a tourist Visa for 90 days which can then be extended to 6 months. Entering the country is not an issue. Once you reach Korea and start talking with schools they can attempt to deal with the E-2 Visa issue. |

You live in a cheap hotel for a week, until you find a job... that provides housing etc.
And poor? You need to survive on your own money for a month in Korea anyhow when you first arrive.. no different. |
