In reality, Korea is probably the world's least friendly location with regards to foreign captial investment. Korean law courts and tax authorities aren't going to lift one finger to help you out in a tight spot. Any dispute between you and a Korean party, will be decided in their favour. That's something that you should probably think about. You don't have to be an investment analyst to read any of the stories in the paper recently about foreign companies getting fleeced in Korea. If they can get away with fleecing the investment banks and fortune500's, then you don't stand any chance whatsoever.
An E2 working visa gives you absolutely no rights whatsoever in Korea. You are here at the goodwill of immigration. They can throw you out at any time, with no notice and no reason given. Disputes happen all the time, and for someone who works with kids - the chances of there being a 'misunderstanding' at some point - are quite high.
Signing your school over to a 'trusted' korean partner, is lunacy. Anyone who would even think about that probably shouldn't be thinking about going in to business at all. Maybe if the trusted partner was your wife, it might be ok ... but even then there is a risk. |

First of all I don't know, nor would I ever comment on how much money yesanman makes at his hogwon. If you are interested in buying it, e-mail him and ask him.
Secondly, just because Lonestar investments is getting the long hard one because Korea is pissed off about the billions it made doesn't reflect down on such a small buisness. Yesanman has been doing this for a number of years and even through englishspectrumgate last year he has always been left alone by immigration. He started doing it as an E2 with his wife as his boss and now he has a F class visa.
Thirdly, if you don't trust the Korean your sleeping with, well you've got issues beyond owning a hogwon. |
