Let's see that lateral-minded Wink , off-the-wall Laughing , near-genius Laughing side of the forum that sometimes rears it's head...

I'm flying back to England next month to attend one of my best friends wedding. Myself and three others are to be joint best men at the wedding and we need an original, creative approach to giving the speech.

It doesn't need to be an epic, but I reckon a 10-20 minute effort will be enough. i've been racking my brains for something a little different, rather than just taking it in turns to tell a couple of stories, etc.

Things like an intearctive Slide Show/Video show or even writing and performing a rap ( Cool ) have crossed my mind but I've yet to strike gold. It's not easy seeing as the four of us can't really meet up until very close to the actual day.

So go on then, what have you got?

How about doing a 'Men in Black' style/three tenors style skit.

Or a this is your life type thing. Very Happy

Sounds like fun. Laughing

Crossdress as bridesmaids.

Whatever you say will be funny and it'll be memorable.

"Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." Laughing
The most macho of the bunch can brag: "I'll catch the bouquet." Gawd the opportunities to throw some humdingers in the speech is endless.

The straighter you guys usually are, the better it'll be. Are you men enough?

Three simple words.

"Hire midget strippers."

Guaranteed to get any ol' wedding rockin'.

He said wedding speech, not auditions for the next Exorcist.

um depending on the type of wedding don't be too off the wall. I know it is tempting but this is a special day.

If it is just an excuse to have a party for a couple that have been living together forever and they need new stuff then go all out.

But if this is a serious affair be nice. This girl may have been dreaming about this day for a long time. The last thing she wants is midget strippers or Men in black impersonators.

Personally I would have been mortified if anyone would have done something like that at my wedding.

Second what Jade said.

Whatever you do make sure to clear it with the bride and groom first. Especially the bride. It's impossible to commnuicate just how important the wedding is to the bride.

As a wedding and office party DJ for 3 years I worked at dozens of weddings and saw a few japes and tomfoolery backfire and leave the bride crying in the bathroom on her wedding night.

Also remember most wedding guests tend to old or middle-aged. That will be the bulk of your audience.

I like the idea of a slide show with old pictures of bride/groom and other family and friends. You could pull a lot of people into the show that way. You could make a few jokes with each picture and maybe tell a few embarrassing stories. Not too heavy.

I once sat through a very raunchy best man's speech. This guy had the wrong end of the stick completely. He seemed to think his job was to humiliate the groom. Needless to say everyone thought he ruined the wedding.

thanks for the ideas folks. After discussing it with a couple of the other best men, we have decided to go with a slide/video show and we'll intersperse (sp??) it with our favourite stories of the groom. We all have loads of great ones varying from the very dodgy to the lighthearted to the cute, he must love her so much stories.

we all promised to get the green light off the groom for the stories and his fiance is very easygoing so i'm sure we will raise some laughs.

Over 300 guests at the reception though, it's going to be nerveracking!!!! A couple of pints of guiniess will have to be consumed before we start!!

People who ask for lateral-minded, off-the-wall suggestions rarely mean it.
