Hyundai Steel unionists to launch strike Friday
Unionists of Hyundai Steel Co., South Korea's second-largest steelmaker, have decided to go on strike later this week after negotiations with the management over a pay raise failed, industry sources said Wednesday. The decision comes amid rising concern over the damage protracted labor disputes have on the country's economy. A month-long partial walkout by Hyundai Motor Co.'s union has cost the nation's No. 1 carmaker an estimated 1 trillion won (US$1.05 billion) in lost production so far.
