Does anyone have experience with the English Channel in Busan? Their ad says one-on-one with adults but I notice they don't list the hours.

I've interviewed with English Channel twice. The second time I was offered a job as I had more teaching experience. The problem though was with housing since I'm married. Last I heard they were suppose to look into it and I never heard from them.

Both times were up here in Seoul, but my guess is the schools in Busan are run similarly. The job is 6 months split shift and 6 months block shift. One of the guys I worked with at another hogwan works there and seems happy. I've heard both good and bad things about them.

I just skimmed the contract so I don't know if its mentioned, but I've interviewed with them before. I noticed that you have to wear a WHITE LAB COAT at all times when you're teaching. If you have ever had a mad scientist fetish, this job is definitely the one for you.

I was considering a position with this company as well, but was turned off by the split shifts, lack of paid vacation and the fact that they only cover your plane ticket to Korea (not home!) and don't reimburse you for that until the end of your contract.

I came close to signing, but couldnt be arsed with the splits, and airfare paid at end of contract. I emailed some workers there and they said they always get paid on time. One thing, they have recently changed their contract so on-one has to work Saturdays, but the contract they sent to me had two Saturdays in it. The recruiter said he got in a muddle, but I doubt it very much. The payment system is very complex too. The 2 million won is for a minimum of 60% of teaching for each 8 hr shift. So only teach 4.8hrs a day. Each 1% over 60% tought results in extra cash(hope that makes sense!). Lessons are 20 minutes, and have to wear lab coats. I got the job after a 5 min phone interview, seem too keen. And finally, the emails they sent were awful. They made no sense, it was like reading code!

Monthly Salary is 2.0 million for M-F, eight hours a day at the clinic.

There are a maximum of 16 lessons a day and the lessons are 25 minutes long.

You are paid the base salary of 2.0 million for a booking rate under 65% averaged over the month. So if you average 10 lessons a day or less over the month, you'd have a booking rate of 62.5% at most and receive no booking rate bonus.

If you have, on average over the course of the month, 10.4 lessons a day, then you'd have a booking rate of 65%. With this booking rate, you'd receive a bonus of 50,000 won.

If you average 11.4 lessons a day over the month, you'd have a booking rate of 70% and would receive a bonus of 100,000 won.

If you average 12 lessons a day you'd have a booking rate of 75% and would receive a bonus of 150,000 won.

If you average 12.8 lessons a day you'd have a booking rate of 80% and would receive a bonus of 200,000 won.

If you average 13.6 lessons a day you'd have a booking rate of 85% and would receive a bonus of 250,000 won.

If you average 14.4 lessons a day you'd have a booking rate of 90% and would receive a bonus of 300,000 won.

If you average 15.2 lessons a day then you'd have a booking rate of 95% and would receive the maximum monthly bonus of 350,000 won.

If you decide to work Saturdays (when you sign a contract you choose how many Saturdays you want to work each month, 0, 2 or 4 a month) then you get an extra 150,000 won for each Saturday.

Maximum pay for the month could be as high as 2,950,000 won, but you'd be working at least 7.5-8 hours a day on average, six days a week. That's alot work required to get the maximum. But you could also get the minimum for almost no work at all (if you only have 8 lessons a day, that's 4 hours of work or 20 hours a week) you would still make 2.0 a month. That's not too bad for not having to do any preparation and less stress than working with kids.

Single housing is supplied, usually within 20 minutes of the clinic by subway or bus (in some cases, it's within five-minutes walking distance).

"Seem too keen"...well, we just opened another branch near City Hall last week and it needs to be staffed ASAP. Since December 2005, we've opened six new branches...that's alot of new positions we've had to fill. In short, the company is doing well.

That has to be the most complex payment system I've ever heard!!

Still sounds like some good opportunities to earn some serious cash!

Right Pieman, it is complex, but also remember it's a bonus system and 2.0 mill is your minimum. If you are busy, you get extra.

There is also the opportunity to pick up overtime if a co-worker goes on vacation, so it's possible to make over 3.0 mill a month, but that adds up to alot of hours with little time for yourself.

Are you sure you get OT pay for extra classes worked when a colleague goes on vacation? I have been told that you must work extra hours, but don't receive extra pay.
