To start, i have not bought/played a computer game in close to a decade, actually, probably more than a decade now that I think about it.
I'm heading to Korea for my second tour of duty as an english teacher in about a month and I figured that I would bring a game over, the game in question is Civilization 4. I have a macbook, 1.83 ghz and a GB ram. The system states its min requirements are 2.0 ghz and a gig ram.
My question is should I opt for Civ 3 or can my machine handle Civ 4? The last time I was playing with video games was on a pentium 1 and I believe it was 60 mhz and so I have no idea how closely min requirements need to be followed anymore. |

Minimum system requirements are a bit lower than you think, but the recommended hardware is about the same as you've got: 1.8GHz CPU, 512MB - 1GB RAM. The big problem is graphics - the minimum is Radeon 9600 equivalent, and to play it well you really should have something the equivalent of a Radeon 9800 or better. What does your Macbook have?

thanks for the reply.
After I posted i continued my search and found that the macbook due to the shared graphics will/does not handle Civ 4 well. This being the case, I will be purchasing Civ 3. This purchase does raise another question, though, that being will there be conflicts in the mac Civ 3 which was put out on the old processor, and running it on the coreduo? |

I'm not great with MACS but I'll give it a try:
There shouldn't be any problem except for the increase in speed (you are talking about dual core correct? If not, I apologize and just ignore my post). Remember, the processor is just that, a thing that processes information. The better and faster it is, the faster the thing will run; simply stated of course. |

| yeah, it's the intel coreduo processor. My concern is that between the less than suggested processor, combined with the shared graphics memory that it'll have trouble running. I was addicted to civ as a 12-15 year old, and though I certainly plan on doing 'other things' when I get back to Korea, I figure a little civ will help pass the time. I just want to make sure that I have a functioning version of civ. |

definitely go to that site and check it out for civ3 and 4. Don't go by suggested specs, go by recommended specs. Afterwards, if you need help upgrading your PC, post it here and we'll help you find a cost effective solution. |
