Went to Chiaksan park, then into Wonju for the night.

Aahh, I think, finally my chance to stay in one of these saunas everyone raves about! And cheap!

It's a motel room with a bath. It was W20,000.

Have I been ripped off or has everyone been having me on?

Sounds about right.

My local neighborhood one costs 4,000 won daytime before 6pm or 15,000 overnight (after 6pm).

I'd say you stayed in a motel. The symbol for saunas and motels is the same. It's a bit confusing at first.

isnt a sauna the public place where korean men grunt and point at you, your tats, and your oversize dingle-dangle?

20,000 won?

That's bloody cheap for a motel with a bath.

I guess so. I just heard all these dream stories of them being w10,000 with beautiful saunas 'n stuff, and you have your own room as a side.

Saunas are a lot cheaper than motels, 10,000won is on the high side I would presume.

I've never heard of a regular sauna that gives you your own room. Every time I've gone, I've paid about 7,000 won and had to sleep in either a community area on the floor, or in a room for only men on the floor.

It's always a back-breaking sleeping experience. But at least you can get a nice bath when you wake up.

If its your bag, you can have a sauna experience, plus private overnight room to yourself, but you'll also have to tolerate an hour of a hot Korean girl giving you a nude body massage before you can get to your room. Expect to pay 160K at the low end.

Sounds like a motel to me. Most saunas don't have a bath, they usually have a few baths and there are lots of naked people. Were there lots of naked people?
