My HP doesn't need service but when I bought it I noticed that it has an international warranty, and that includes a service number for Korea. I haven't tried to call, and knock on wood, I won't need to call that number.

Just do a google search on "HP" "international warranty" and you'll get a hit on their list of international service providers.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a REPLY to adverge about his problem finding an HP service provider. I guess I hit new topic by accident.

Even though this topic is a mistake, I'll add this and see if anyone can confirm or deny.

I was looking to buy a laptop (got a Dell today). I was interested in an HP, b/c I had read about the international warranty, but it only applies (from my POV) to computers available both in the US and Korea. So for example the HP-DV8000 series wouldn't be covered in the warranty since it isn't available in Korea. There are only a few HP models shown on the HP Korea website. Dell, though, said all their notebooks are covered by the international warranty, regardless of whether they're Latitude or Inspiron.

But Dell Korea only supports the Latitude models. If you have an Inspiron, Dell Korea won't honor the warranty. And since the computer isn't in the USA, where I bought it, Dell USA won't honor the warranty either. I recently found myself in just that situation.

DELL did not honour my Inspiron warranty either, but that was several years ago. I don't know what the situation is now but at the time, they only sold the Latitude in Korea so they claimed they had no technicians who were licenced to work on the Inspiron -- even though the part number I needed was identical for both laptops.

Anyway back to the part about HP. I need my HP /Compaq Presario serviced and I sent an email through the Korean HP website...I can't remember how I got to it, but it must have jsut been from following links to a "Service Request" area. They phoned me the next day, but unfortunately the voice mail was all in Korean, and when you phone them back, you have to navigate a phone menu in Korean.

So, it seemed like they were at least up on it quickly, but you'll need some Korean language assistance or ability to deal with it.

Well, I checked with a few people at Dell and they said that both notebook models are covered, so hopefully that works out.

There aren't many options for international warranties, b/c there's always a catch.

But then I just checked here: http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/ap/topics/services/en/international_service?c=my&l=en&s=bsd

and saw that it's not available for Inspiron models in Korea. Son of a *****, I wish someone had their act together. Oh well.

You can buy a Dell computer from www.dell.co.kr and get full warranty support for it IN KOREA, whether it's a Latitude or Inspiron model.

But, if you buy your Inspiron model in the USA or any other country, Dell Korea can't honor the warranty. They are only authorized to do international warranty work on the Latitude line.[/b]
