This must be what khreporter meant when he said they're presenting balanced views. |

"Koreans resisted by asserting their unique and great national heritage."
"based on a single bloodline of the great Han race."
I think this article was ghost-written by Tony the Tiger. |

I can see how expats in Korea can get very paranoid views on Koreans by reading this kind of stuff.
Thing to remember is not all Koreans subscribe to this idiocy. Some Koreans are actually quite bright and intellegent believe it or not... |

No teachers here disagree with the above statement personally. Its just the intelligent koreans are rather quiet about standing up for foreigners when the majority of Koreans go on the bi-annual foreigner hunt.
That hurts, just as the spitting, overcharging, removal from shops, verbal abuse, hardened looks, difficulty of finding work, etc. that occurs every time the majority of Koreans are upset.
Oh, by the way it never happens to pro Korean foreigners and what I said has to be disgarded by the majority of new teachers as you will never experience it until the new issue arrives.
Which it seems too ever 2-3 years. |

Well, I lived in Korea for almost 3 years, never really had any real serious problems other than a little bit of minor Hogwan BS stuff.
The only time I detected any hint of agression is if the US did something to aggravate the Koreans (like the day the US attacked Iraq).
But that would only usually last a day, and it was limited to evil stares.
I would wager that most expats in Asia are more racist toward the Asians than they are toward us...
I think if you want to know what real racism in Korea is like go talk to the Pinoy or Pakistani 3D workers.
The Koreans genuinely feel superior to them, whereas with white Westerns their feelings are more of resentment and insecurity. |
