It always astounds me to see the attachment people have to their used items...so much so that they think they can justify selling a used item for close to the original purchase price!
Are you kidding?! An item loses half its value as soon as you walk out of the store and don't forget, most people would rather pay the little extra for something brand new. Also you are negotiating with Westerners and other foreigners who know how much something is really worth.
Just remember, if you are the one moving and selling your used items, try to be a little more flexible and let go of the sentiment, otherwise you'll be holding on to that item for a long time!!!!! |

agreed and some things that people try to sell should just be given away. Do people really want to travel on the subway to buy your set of glasses for 5,000 won. Really just give it away or throw it out with the trash. |

True story.
There was a lady leaving my old workplace. She was going back to Aust. and had these two books shelves. She was at her limit for luggage on the airplane already. When the new girl came in to look at the place, she said if you want these bookshelves, you must pay me 35,000. I bought them for 40,000 last year. Come on, there is no way that lady could have taken them with her or sold them because she was leaving the next day.
I knew someone even try to sell privates. As if they aren't as easy as pie get. |

I've sold a couple of things here on Dave's and always much less than what other people are trying to sell things for.
I've also given away a DVD player on Daves and given away stuff to people I know not on Daves. I really don't understand peoples need to sell every single thing. Really if you're trying to sell it for 1,000 won, you are cheap - just give it away. |

Selling things under W10,000 is usually a waste of time for everyone involved.
The OP suggestion that a product loses half of its value immediately after purchase, however, is complete bull$hit.
In my travels around the world, never have I seen a group of people who are more penny-pinching and low balling than english teachers.
Yes, when you buy something, it immediately loses value.
Yes, if the item is near new, the purchaser will often want to pay the little extra to get a new one.
Items depreciate in value according to many criteria, including age, wear, decrease in popularity, etc.
If you're telling me that if I buy a new car for $10,000 and then try to sell it the next day I should only be able to get $5,000, there's something wrong with the apple on your shoulders.
I've seen many outrageous prices on Dave's, there's no doubting that. However, without failure anything that goes on sale here is met by the low-ballers that have nothing to do but offer stupid prices. Somebody offers to sell their brand new unopened item worth W250,000 retail for W200,000 and people offer W100,000 and a sock while telling the poster that since it is already out of the store that it is only worth W125,000 to begin with.
Common' people, get a grip! People selling things need to consider the current market value of what they are selling when they post and the trolls who fill this board with useless $hit should go home.
Someone mentioned about dealing with Westerners who "know how much something is worth". That's funny, it's westerners who have garage sales and sell things for a quarter and try to sell any garbage they have. Koreans just throw perfectly good things in the trash.
Also remember, what you can see on ebay or N.A. websites is not what the value of the same thing is here. Things in Korea are generally more expensive. |

A good price is what the buyer is willing to pay and the seller is willing to take. If you're part of a sale and you don't end up happy, then you have only your own stupidity to blame.
For those wanting a good return on whatever they paid for an item, they should try selling on the Korean auction sites - depending on the item, some things actually sell quite high. My wife has bought things new on the web, used them, then sold them for equal or higher than what she paid for them new!
I just bought something used here for more than the current price new in the US--I'm perfectly happy with the purchase, because I know that there's no way I could get that item in Korea for anywhere near what I paid. |
