I've noticed that Korean buildings never seem to have enough electrical outlets and that, consequently, every outlet has power strip upon power strip plugged into it. To me, it looks bad but, more importantly, it looks a bit dangerous, too.
So, how many items can be safely plugged into one outlet? I'm not an expert on electrical matters, but I've read over and over about the dangers of overloading sockets. Can anyone explain exactly why this is dangerous (the actual physical workings of the matter), if indeed it is? |

A safe load is usually up to 2 kilowatts (2000 watts) Most outlets could handle more but they would get hot.
2 kilowatts gets you an awful lot of appliances. You could safely plug 15 TV's into one outlet. TV's are only about 50 watts each. Basically, only heavy-duty stuff like heaters and air-cons will push an outlet to its limit. |

Thats easy. The little magical ghosts that inhabit and work in every outlet are overburdened by too many appliances. The gobblins that own the sockets and employ the ghosts are cheapskate batards that wont pay extra wages for extra work. Bloody capitalist bastards. Well, when the ghosts are pushed too far, you have the inevitable strikes by the ghosts which are organized in unions. When the gobblins call in the riot police, all hell breaks loose. The fires that are caused are a result of ghosts throwing molotov cocktails at the riot police.
P.S. Didnt you pay attention in highschool physics? You must be one of those liberal arts majors.

As I tell my wife when she says I never listen to her: "I listen. I just never remember what you say."
Same for high school physics. I recall doing pretty well in those classes, but damned if I remember much. |

| Let's see ... Three power strips, computer, monitor, printer, external hard drive, speakers, modem, two stereo systems, TV, DVD player, and VCR -- one outlet. In the winter, I add in a fourth power strip to make space for the Christmas tree lights and the space heater. |
