I posted recently about finding certain herbal teas namely Rooibos and Yerba Mate. I did end up finding Rooibos at E-mart, but I could not find Yerba Mate there. I am still looking to go somewhere in Seoul and find it at a place that definitely has it, rather than try to buy it on-line. Also, I am very interested in finding Pau D'arco. Is that available in Korea? I am a big tea drinker. I drink Darjeeling, Earl Grey, Oolong, Green Tea (Chinese, not local Korean), Jasmine tea, Rooibos tea, Yerba mate, and I was glad to find an awesome cafe in Cheonan. I am not very big on coffee, but I do enjoy drinking Ethiopian coffee. It is very different.

I like the Brazilian stuff you get in a tin in some stores. Strong as hell. One cup, and I was running around the hagwon.

Not sure on your desired brand, but check out the basement of the COEX/Samseong Hyundai department store next time you're in Seoul. They've got some nice-looking teas down there. Pricey (but what quality item isn't overpriced here?), but worth a look, I guess.

It's really pricy, but there is a Tea Museum Cafe in Apgujeong that's a shop and cafe. They have maybe 100 different kinds of teas on stock from all over the world. Like I said though, it's expensive.

Also what's the difference between Chinese green tea and Korean green tea?

In the underground market in Namdaemun there's a guy with a little tea shop. It's against a wall, not in the middle. I never remember where exactly, I just wander around until I find him. He has lots of interesting teas, but VERY expensive!

Out of curiosity, are the fruit and herb teas here naturally decaffinated? For example, the mugwort, jujube, quince, ginseng and all of that: pure herbs and fruit or mixed/infused with tea leaves? Just wondering what I should and shouldn't drink before bed...

I went to Apgujeong before and I don't know where to find that tea museum cafe. Is there a telephone number or a certain distance from the subway station? As far as green tea, Koreans drink a green tea that is very, very, very weak. I like my green tea strong. My father mailed me this brand of Chinese green tea called Gunpowder Green Tea. It has the dried green tea leaves and I boil some water and let it simmer in the hot water and then I drink it. Believe me, there is a difference. One of my mates, who thought he doesn't like green tea because of the stuff he has tried here, thought the stuff I gave him was good. I don't mind paying a little extra for pau d'arco. I may have to order it on-line it seems....

I have been to Namdaemun. Do you mean the underground part?
I have seen a tea place, but I am sure I could wander around...

the phone number's 02-515-2350. if you're coming from the subway station, walk towards rodeo st. it's on the side street right before it.
i also do know they have the gunpowder green tea you mentioned. i remember seeing and thinking it had a pretty cool name.

Adventurer, yes the underground market. It's got a green glass-covered stairway down. It's in one of the side markets that go off from there, but I can't remember which side. I think off the right side, but I can't remember. I haven't been there since December.

highlighted in red = you can find it at E-Mart

E-Mart recently began re-carrying Twinings brand black teas.

[emoticon for much rejoicing]

E-Mart has also begun to sell a brand of green tea called "lu: tea at origin." On the box is something that says: "Certified Organic OFDC China ... IFOAM Accredited." It's about the same price as all the oodles of other kinds of green teas on sale.

highlighted in green = maybe ...

Herbal teas are not true "teas" and are thus naturally caffeine-free.

Yerba Mate does have caffeine, however, but I'm not sure how much.

There is also a Tea Museum shop in the basement level of the Lotte department store near Myong-dong subway station.
