hey there,
i'm coming back to korea, and i think i've done a pretty good job of making sure i'm not getting screwed. i believe i've negotiated a decent contract (haven't signed or received the final version yet, perhaps i'll post it when i do), and i think that the school i've agreed to work at is academically oriented and just about exactly what i'm looking for. having said that, do any of you know anything about this school? it's in uiwang-shi, gyeonggi-do, and the school is the kaywon school of art and design. any comments, inside info, or baseless rumours would be greatly appreciated!
cheers, laura Cool

Did you get the e-mail addresses of MORE THAN ONE teacher who is currently working there or has recently left?

Did you write (so they can reply without the boss watching them) and ask them for their comments about the current working conditions?

Did you get specific answers about thinngs like pay, overtime, holidays, pension, taxes, medical, number of classes per month, credit for red-days, housing, etc?

If you have NOT ... then what are you doing asking here?
If they could not supply references for you to talk to, why would you consider them?

If you have talked to the current staff and are happy with the answers, what are you waiting for?

He's right. I know it can seem like a pain when your are trying to check out 100 schools at once, but it can make all the difference between a relatively good experience or a potential dissaster.

You can also check the blacklist sites and see if there are any comments about your particular school.

I know someone who worked there and it almost ruined her experience in Korea(this was her second contract in Korea). The hours were much longer than posted, she had to work Saturdays, and she had many problems with the manager(there maybe a new one now last I heard). I'm not in Korea at the moment so I cannot ask this person for more specifics but I can tell you that you should be wary before you sign anything with them.

On the other hand, the curriculum is quite good.

I don't have any comments about this school, but whenever I see a thread like this about a particular school, I always wonder why the OP doesn't mention the name of the school in the thread title, instead of a generic title like "Anybody have any comments on this school?"

By mentioning it in the thread title, you're not only less likely to waste the time of other posters who have never heard of the school, but you're also more likely to get posters who have heard of the school before to read it and respond to it.

Is this an art and design high school or post-secondary college? In either case you could end up with students who for the most part have very little interest in music. There was one teacher - I can't remember her username - who worked at a fine arts HS who mentioned that while the students could be fun they could also be quite uninterested and difficult to control. If it's orientated towards art in design it most likely does not have moongwa / eegwha haksaeng (i.e. students who are necessarily concerned with academic assessment).
