A lot of my students answer with "Sweetbox" when I ask them if they know any Western singers. Now, I know (sadly) all my Britney's, Justin's, Lindsay's etc., but have never heard of this Sweetbox lady except for in Korea.
Where the heck does she come from? Is she popular back home? I'm assuming she never really made it back home but once said something along the lines of "Korea is nice" and now she is some sort of adopted child. |

I won't criticise you for not using Google to find your answer. Even though I just checked and found out, I think "Who the heck is "Sweetbox"?" is a very valid question.
Here, if you want to know everything worth knowing about Sweetbox (also if the population of elephants in Africa has tripled).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetbox
99% of Koreans have a skewed sense of music in this country. They hear a band performing music that sounds like pop so they cling to it, regardless of whether it's popular or good, or will even be remembered in six weeks. At least in our respective countries, 99% of the people out there will listen to any music that's in the top 40, regardless of genre. |

Nice topic. I haven't seen it on here yet. I've been here for 3 years and don't know what all the fuss is about this group, granted, I like their music.

In 1995 Sweetbox released their first published song, "Booyah Here We Go", which was performed by Kimberley Kearney. The song was played in clubs throughout Europe but didnt break the charts. A year later Sweetbox released their second song Shakalaka, performed by Decia Bridges, which obtained the #1 position on the NYC Club Charts.
In 1997 Tina Harris became the front woman of the group and their first hit single, Everthings Gonna Be Alright, was released. The single received placement in ten different European Top Ten charts and Harris was awarded two Japanese Grammies for the song. Later that year a self-titled album was published in 47 different countries (in some regions the album was released as Everythings Gonna Be Alright). However, in 1998 GEO and Harris felt burnt out as a team and the group split up. |

'Don't push me' and 'I'll be there' are my personal favorites. Very catchy tunes. I had never heard of them until maybe a year or two ago thanks to my brother-in-law who has them on one of his cds. He didn't know the group, so I had to do my own research on the internet based on those 2 songs. |

I guess Sweetbox's popular in Korea. Even if they don't know the band, they are likely to know their music. Sweetbox had a couple of successful concerts in Korea last year.
Jade singing one of the popular songs on an MBC show...

Sweetbox also became popular because two songs on the English version of Final Fantasy X-2 were from Jade as well, the lead singer. It was a pretty popular game for rpgs on PS2. 1000 Words and Real Emotion. |

They play a Sweetbox video and that scary Paris Hilton video on the On Style channel all the time. My ears bleed until I change the channel. |
