I like all kinds of cheese, especially European ones like gouda, Italian parmesan, camembert etc... Cheddar is all right. I also am a big fan of Feta goat or sheep cheese. I haven't seen any of that around here whether it is Greek, French, or Bulgarian Feta cheese. I did see feta, but it is from cow's milk. I am looking for any kind of goat cheese, in general. I wouldn't expect to find a Greek, Turkish, or Mediterrannean store in Seoul. It would be awesome if I could find one, because they would stock stuff like that. But if anyone has any idea where someone can find stuff like that, let me know. I did look around. I went to Carrefour, looked in E-Mart, and Costco. I didn't find what I was looking for yet.... Are there any other people on the board who looked for that stuff?

Don't be so sure.

Pasha(Turkish restaurant) in Gangnam didn't even have hummus.

The French enclave in Sorae? in Seocho has 5,000 or so french.Accordingly there ought to be a French store with a good stock of cheese nearby.

Anyone know at all?

If you don't want them to hate it I recommend "Jinro House Wine" and the processed yellow cheese slices. It'll save you money and they'll enjoy it more. Really.

(Unless you have some really ununsual Korean friends =) )

Those are disgusting Sad. I never save money on good food though.

The thing is, the koreans that like to communicate with me don't mind me teaching them Western stuff. Food Etiquette Language.

I used to buy a couple of different cheeses in Shinsegae mall, under the bus terminal. The cheeses and wines used to be right in front of the Starbucks there......a couple of Bries and Camemberts, and I believe even blue cheese once!!!!! Make sure you get some real bread though, not that sweetened crap that pass for baguettes!

Although expensive, the Hyatt Hotel in Seoul has a nice deli with a selection of spices, cheeses, salami, wine, etc. In Busan, several of the large, 5-star hotel also have small deli/shops geared to European/Western tastes.

Give it a try. Also, I know that a few years ago, Jell Deli discontinued the deli and was focussing exclusively on wines but that could have changed.

Good luck.

Hannam Market has cheeses. Hasn't this been said 1,000 times?

If you go up to the Chinese Embassy from Myeongdong, up the hill on the right side of the big Chinese restaurant across from the Migliore area of Myeongdong station, about halfway there ( a few hundred meters?) you will see a small craphole unaffiliated (with Crown Bakery, Tous le jours or any of those sugar bread dives) bakery that makes loaves of Italian style bread.

I'd say it's about the best bread I've had in Korea...

Maybe you can spot something from these pics, taken from Sangbong's Costco.

huckleberry farms in bundang carries goat cheese and other different organic cheese. Also samsung plaza again in bundang has a good assortment of cheese. Both are a little on the pricy side but good.

Costco carries feta but it is not made from sheep or goat's milk. So it isn't what I am looking for... Bulgaria, France, and Greece make cheese often with goat and sheep cheese. The French version is lighter and pretty good. Canada also makes decent feta, I believe. I think I recall trying it. As far as the Turkish restaurant, hummus is not a Turkish food. It is a dish of Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine. So-called Greek restaurants in North America are run by Lebanese and Palestinian owners who call them Greek restaurants, because it is close enough to Greek food and similar, and people tend to like Greeks more.

Costco's okay, but their selection is pretty limited, availability is very unpredictable/inconsistent, and their prices so-so.

For cheese, the newly reopened (after many years) Diplomatic Commissary in Jongno-gu (where else?) has the widest variety of them all.

They beat even JELL Deli in price & selection. (BTW, the last two times I was at JELL, they had nothing but wine & other alcohol on display -- no food items at all. Have they restocked?)

You won't believe their low prices for spices, either.

But best of all is the Fresh Produce section.

(Yes, that is fresh asparagus you see there.)

Feta cheese is very simple to make. My mother does it all the time. She also makes cream cheese, mozzeralla, and several other soft cheeses. All you need is some goat's milk. There are loads of little black nanny goats in Korea. Laughing Otherwise you can subsitute cows milk. I know the OP is looking for sheep or goat cheese and I do hope he finds it.
