I'm going on vacation to Europe for 10 days in October. I figure that I should get a nice backpack for this trip. I don't want some crazy thing with poles and what not. But something practical for 10 days of hostels. Any suggestions on good places to find them?

Thanks.

I got a very good day pack at a store at my university for W20,000 (or was it 25,000?). Spacious main storage, a smaller secondary storage, a third area for a discman, mesh pockets on each side for water or fruit, and a holster for a cel on the shoulder strap. The zippers and stitching are good. I also managed to find one with the university name embroidered very discreetly, so I don't feel like a walking advert all the time. Most unis will have shops selling packs like this for their students. You can probably get something cheaper at one of the markets, but I feel like I got good quality and it was convenient.

i went to the local lowe alpine store (try the north face and the local markets too)it does depend on what quality of backpack you want
as they were having a 50% sale...i got a day/weekend size back pack for 26000won....its awesome and you can cram heaps of stuff into it and you can separate the main pocket from the bottom pocket with a zip...

i also have a large travel combination backpack which is a massive 70 litres and i used that to come to korea..it depends on how long you're going for and how much stuff you wanna pack Wink

cheers

There are some good backpacking and camping shops just outside Namdaemun Market. There are two routes to get there:

ROUTE 1
Take the subway to Hoehyeon station. Go out exit 6. Walk straight for a couple hundred meters. The stores are on your right.

ROUTE 2
If you're inside Namdaemun Market, follow signs on the ground for Gate 5 or 6.
If you go to Gate 6, step just outside the gate and turn left on the sidewalk. The shops are about 100 meters on your left.
If you go to Gate 5, step just outside the gate and turn right on the sidewalk. The shops are about 100 meters on your right.

I hope this helps!
