i noticed a deposit in my bankbook for over 1 million won from some guy i have never heard of. i'm assuming someone transferred money into my account by mistake. so here's my question- when he finally finds out what he's done, does the bank have to get my permission to refund it to him? ot just correct it without notice?

this is slightly amusing since i myself am always afraid of depositing money into the wrong account whenever i pay rent...

Do the right thing- report it to your bank/school. Why do you even have to think about it and post it?

well, i guess the 'half-full' part of me hopes that perhaps it just may be money owed to me. and i just don't know about it.. yet.

i might have come off as shady, but i would honestly like to know ahead of time if my bank took $1000 out of my account. does anyone know about the procedure when this happens?

so you're saying that you would take the trip to the bank to tell them 'please take this $1000 out of my account'? or just let them sort if out by themselves?

If you think it could be legitimately yours because someone owes money to you for some reason, ask that person. Otherwise I would take your passbook or other record to the bank and tell them that there appears to be an error.

By any chance are you using the bank "Ever Rich?" I hear they just give out money to random people, you know, to live up to their name. Ever Rich!! Laughing

If you find a million won laying around in the street with no way to identify the owner, then I say Merry Christmas. In this case, you have the means to return the money to its proper owner. If you deposited a million won in the wrong account, what do you hope would happen?

Call the bank (or have someone at work do it for you) and give them the information (name and account number of the depositor). Let them check it out.

What Messiahs? Wink

Seriously, Q. If I suddenly found a little "extra" money in my account, I'd like to know where it came from. If I'd earned it, fine. But if I kept it knowing that it wasn't mine, I'd feel ill. Literally. That's just the type of person I am.
