If the US used 9-11 as a chance to get away from oil - US military action in the mideast would be far more effective.

Do I feel safer? No. But I never felt unsafe either.

(BTW, someone posted on another thread that last year 55 Americans were killed by terrorism: in the same period, 43,000 were killed on the roads and 30,000 were shot dead in USA. Perspective.)

C'mon, Wangja! 2000+ Americans died on 9/11!!! It's an absolute no-brainer that 20,000 more Americans should be injured/maimed/killed to keep that from happening again!!!

Seemingly everything and everyone is seen as a threat to the US by some Americans, even us sketchy Canadians. Rolling Eyes

All Canadians are not sketchy, although at least some Canadians are quite quarrelsome and, in the context of South Korean bars at least, very scrappy when it comes to their attitudes about the U.S. and Americans.

However, even if all Canadians were so truculent, contrary, and even defiant with respect to the U.S. as some here clearly are, this could never pose the least threat to U.S. national security.

On the other hand, it potentially very much affects U.S.-Canadian relations.

If that is something that is important to you and others, then perhaps such eyerolls are not necessary when making your point that some Americans here do not treat or react to Canadians as you might like them to.

One wonders why America made requests to Canada to help police the border more securely then . After all that 2000 mile undefended border poses no threat to U.S. national security.... please. If Canadian sympathies should turn towards Iran and Iraq, you might want to rethink that statement. We may not attack the U.S, but what if we were to welcome suicide bombers posing as refugees? Be easy enough to get across the border.

Thankfully as you say, not all Canadians are quarrelsome and scrappy when it comes to the U.S. You should be happy (as I am) that Harper is in power (for now at least)

Rather than go in circles on an argument that will never end, certainly not in any productive way, at least not on this board, I would prefer to seize upon what you say here and point out that we agree on this point. Indeed, you have helped me appreciate this.

I also think that the U.S.-Canadian relationship is important. I could see myself having an exchange of views with Canadians who think and reason like you (and, particularly, On the Other Hand, as well) on what might have gone wrong and how the situation might be reversed for the sake of both of our national interests.

I stand by my original objection on this thread, however, that deliberately-constructed sarcastic comments and strategically-placed eye rolls are just not helpful.

Here I was referring to Joo Rip Gwa Rhhee, whom I know personally. It was an inside joke, and nothing else. Relax, boys...
