I don't get it. Thailand in August? and such locales then. Isn't it hot and humid enough here? I travel the beaches of Korea in summertime in part to swim in water that'll lower my boiling body temperature. To imagine going to a hotter more humid place in August is unfathomable to me. Are you the same guys who go in wintertime too, or are you those who whine about Korean winters. I understand how someone would want to get away from the cold in winter and go to a nice hot, sunny beach. I feel such longings too, until I remember how much I suffer in the summer unless I cool down periodically. Okay, fine. But why go in summer and not wait until winter? or do you go both times? (those guys I understand, though can't emphasize totally with). Are those who go to hotter and more humid places on summer vacations actually not dying in the heat and humidity? Is it actually in any way enjoyable? I wanna head to Russia in summertime, or anyplace 20ish C. Maybe you guys would actually like to live in southeast asia 24/7, 365, if the pay and personal commitments allowed it. Is that it, you sweaty horde of cold-blooded lizards? I don't get it. maybe it's because I grew up on the West coast of Canada, where summers reached 26 C on a hot day, and rain thankfully keeps the temp in the 20-22 C range throughout the summer. But I lived in the semi-arid desert of Kamloops for ten years afterwards, and the 40 C days were at least not at all humid. Are you guys from tropical jungles climes? or southcal or Florida or believe that sweating is part of what summers are all about. And don't get me started on how Koreans can stand around me on a day like today, shirt dry as can be seen, while mine is DRIPPING wet. Ugh. You bunch of frogs in a pot! Excuse me, I GOTTA go jump in the river.

I stopped reading your post after line two, but all I have to say is, if you want to see Angor Wat, it's going to be hot. If you're going to Singapore, stay inside. And if you have ever planned on a Mekong cruise in Laos, be prepared for temperatures not even remotely fathomable sitting in the conforts of your air-conditioned office.

Does the heat detract from the experience? Yes. Does it amaze me to see locals in long pants while I'm soaked through? Yes. Does the heat prevent me from going? No.

Choice morsels by the Van Man! I think he's a bit freaked by the heat. I know I am. Current temperature in the Sweat Lodge is a cozy, toasty 31 C. That heavy shower we had earlier knocked the mercury down a notch for a few hours, but we're right back up where we wanna be now! Very Happy ( Mad !)

personally I found it easier to handle the heat in Thailand in July (don't know what it's like in August) than summer time in Korea.

Want hellish heat? Go to the UAE, Saudi, or Oman in the summer time; makes southeast asia and korea look ice cold. 90 degree Damascus gets swamped with Gulf Arabs trying to get out of the heat.

Ive been to Siem Reap in January and in July- I far preferred July. There was a daily deluge to cool things, there were less tourists, and, best of all, the darkened and varied skies were much better for photography.

I'm in Bangkok right now. I was much more uncomfortable in Miami last week, and I am not in a hurry to get on the plane to Korea tomorrow. Hey, it just finished a downpour which lasted the hour and a half I was getting a Thai massage. The air is now pretty fresh and clean. And jasmine scented.
Cool

Didn't have any problems in Cambodia, the afternoon deluge was great.

Okay- so I am coming back this morning, is that quickly enough? Daegu better be nicer than I remember for August! Yes, a hot, polluted, industrial Korean city instead of Bangkok. Hmmmm, maybe someone is delusional. Wink

Perhaps Bangkok offers climate advantages in winter, but in summer? It's a stretch to say the weather is better there!

You chose Daegu.

A hot, polluted Bangkok or a fresh-air nice town near Jiri mountain and Namhae beaches. Wait, I'm thinking...

Actually the worst months I have found for heat in Thailand are in April and May. That's when they close the schools for vacation primarily because of the heat. Surely it gets hot in the summer but really the only negative is that it is the rainy season.

Ouch! That's harsh! I chose a good job, Daegu, for better for for worse, and there are aspects of both, came with the job.

Yes, Thailand is hottest from late March till the rains start. It really wasn't bad this week. I came from Miami, where it was hotter and stickier, and, as noted, will be in Daegu tomorrow. I am personally praying for rain. Confused
