A stupid recruiter rang me at 3 AM Irish time and woke me up. I couldn't hear her anyway so I just hung up. It was on my mobile so I searched for the number and came up with a complaint against ETIK. I didn't know this recruiter was part of ETIK. If this happens again what should I do? I really hate having to do interviews with Korean recruiters who have poor English, speak too softly, don't understand what I'm saying. They really should get better qualified employees. Anyway this is the first time its happened so I guess I should be thankful that most recruiters are sensible enough to realise there is a substantial time difference between Europe and Korea.

How badly do you want the job? If you really want the job, talk to them. I will say however that the recruiter is not the school, so it wouldn't be fair to judge the school by the recruiter...

Most of them ask for a good time to call, the lady in question however said nothing about calling. It's a pity so much business is done through recruiters, I got in direct contact with a school for the first time and it is the best offer I've had so far. I'll take such calls in future as an indication of a lack of professionalism and end the contact.

If that is truely how you feel, then you better get a pair of rose colored glasses before you get to Korea. You will surely need them.

You will be in for a rude awakening and a real eye opener when you get here.

Oh god forbid you get one phone call that wakes you up from your precious sleep.

Irish, Don't mind those bitter people. If any recruiter calls you at 3am just tell them to f off. Trust me, if a recruiter can't get it together enough to understand time differences between country's, i doubt they will have the nowse to get any kind of worthwhile position hooked up for you.

Bide your time, that's the best advice i can give, don't rush into the first gig. Go through as many recruiters as possible and string them all along till you get the best deal.

If they can't figure out the time difference between Korean and wherever the hell you are, just imagine what else escapes their not-so-keen analytical abilities. Best to go with a different recruiter, if you must deal with any at all.

Don't come to Korea. You won't like it here. I've met people like you here in Korea and you won't last long. What are you going to do when you get here and all your students start complaining about your Irish accent? Irish accents aren't even widely accepted in NA, so do you think they will accept it in Korea? There are Australians here in Korea who have been given a really hard time and you will go through worse. Even if you don't have an accent you will have to deal with Koreans who speak poor English, speak softly and don't understand what you are saying.

The recruiter who phoned you so late was a complete idiot but if you are even slightly annoyed you will be in a for a huge shock if you come here. Koreans will do many things which will annoy you even more.

I've certainly mis-computed the time zones and called my family at 4am - more than once.

Not a big deal.

Get a dose of flexible - if you wish to work overseas and survive - you can't let such little things get you so upset.

Yeah - their English is not so good. That's why they want/need to hire you!

If being woken up at 3 am by someone who can't speak English well bothers you, how will you deal with a boss who can't speak English AT ALL, students who fall asleep in class, the store clerk who can't understand you (or your accent), 30 students who keep talking in Korean when you say "BE QUIET"....and 100+ other "problems" that you'll encounter in Korea???

The reason you want to come here is....????

First of all, ETIK is the guy who put me in a hagwon tht had no money, and got me deported within a month of starting the job because I had been told I had to work at a second location.
