If I was still 30 I would be dating 1st year uni chicks for sure!
Ajuma bars!? You gotta be kidding, right? |
Why dont you post a recent picture of yourself just so that we can verify that you can still pull korean girls half your age? |

I doubt a picture would prove anything one way or the other. You may have missed the many posts, right here on Dave's, by ex-pat girls commenting disparagingly about all the below-average-looking Western guys they see walking hand-in-hand with young Korean girls who, in the looks department at least, would be well beyond their reach were they "back home". And I agree with that observation. Well, not with the disparaging part.
From all I've seen in Korea and Japan, what Cohiba has said (however bluntly, and perhaps insultingly, though I've never seen him pull his punches) is not incredible. And I'm pretty sure it isn't just boasting, either. |

We are not talking about ugly guys with pretty girls here. We are talking about a huge age difference. Cohiba was saying that he can get girls far younger than him. I just dont see that very much in korea. Other asian countries yes. Not korea.
Myabe he looks very young and is willing to splash a lot of cash on his dates. Then its possible. But if he is the average 40 year old slob, he wont be getting 20 something korean girls. |

I've only been here a year and yet have not seen the older western guys with young k-girls (I want to be one of them), but i'm not below average looking....and I don't get out of my cage much |

She has a good job, life experience, and she's a good conversationalist? I'll take a 35 year old lawyer who still holds some looks over a 22 year old with a killer perky body.
The problem with dating half your age is lifestyle, life goals. Many men in their 30s are looking to settle down. Many women in their early 20s aren't. By the time you conclude you're not getting any younger and this is the best you're ever going to get, she'd decided the fun is over and spending Friday nights watching the latest episode of Lost you've downloaded and ordering pizza in, kind of losses its appeal. |

I'm 30. I don't have any interest in dating children...er...Men who are significanty younger.
(Somebody tell that to the 21 year old who used to bother me. I kept mentioning the age difference. He just didn't get it.)
Mind you, I'm not completely revolted by people who are in their 20s.
Not that the OP is, either. But the shuffleboard jokes cracked me up. |

You're right that one doesn't _see_ very much of it in Korea, especially if we're talking about the standard, high-profile, in-the-public-eye, monogamous, geared-towards-marriage dating scene. Sure, I agree. But as regards everything else, all kinds of stuff goes on with a very intentional lack of fanfare.
You're also right about Korea being different from other Asian countries. Fat shirtless middle-aged Western men swilling beer at outdoor cafes flanked by two teenaged local girls -- that just isn't a common spectacle in Korea. And so of course you're not going to see guys in their 40s showing up at foreign embassy receptions & national-day parties with their 20-something hottie K-girlfriends on their arm. No, they bring their 39-year-old wives to those things.
I have many fellow Western male friends in their 30s & 40s, some have been here a decade, and quite a few are still the same kids in a candy store they ever were. They come to parties with a new girlfriend every time. I'd say they don't "date" young Korean women so much as they "juggle" them.

Usually it's the 20 year olds who end up juggling the foreigners.
Being in my 30s as the OP, I also tend to go for the more stable 28-36 year olds as long as they've finished school, don't live with their parents and have a stable career.
I'll have to check out that JJ Mahoneys. Where is it located in Insa-dong? |

| JJ Mahoney's is in Itaewon, right? At the Hyatt? I heard a Corona is 14,000 won there. That's the kind of place I would take a flask to (I don't actually have a flask), order tonics with lime, and top it off with whatever I was carting around in my flask. lol |

There are two main bar areas at JJ Mahoney's the live bar and the dancing one, if you want a seat & table get out your credit cards (All of them) ...drinks will cost you like 14,000won for a small beer plus 22% tax, so watch your wallet^^
A few Iteawon bar flies end up there looking to hook up customers, so watch out^^
Age of people there on the average is higher, more biz people and girls looking to meet biz people ...so once again esp if you are a guy watch your wallet^^
The only other areas for older people to hang out in Korea = Churches, Graveyards and Soju Tents. Oh almost forgot there is also the night club called "dont tell mama" it caters for the 30 something crowd, so dont be surprised if a 50 year old agema is dragged back to your table^^ |

This thread is very timely since I just happen to have a nice photo of the guru with his latest squeeze from JJ Mahoney's. Here they are having a nice chat after an especially rousing shuffleboard tournament:
I bet the guru scored big-time after he whisked her off her feet (she could barely walk what with her arthritis and all) and brought her back to guru's loveshack.
However, just a few days prior, guru was celebrating Edna's birthday, and took this lovely photo of her:
Seems the guru's on a roll!

Thank god the guy is smiling or I wouldn't have seen him. Gosh, that's a highly racist joke. |
