|
Sorry if this is obvious to everyone else, but not to me. I have looked through the other posts, but can't find a clear answer. I'd really appreciate some clarification.
I'm in the States, applying right now for Seoul, Pusan or Jeju. I want to work as soon as possible (sept 06) through sometime next spring... (mar-may 06... probably April) anywhere in Korea.
First question : If I want to work ASAP, should/can I begin the process of applying for a work visa without knowing where I'll be working yet?
Second question : Assuming I can only find 1-year contracts, can I physically leave the country if I ,for some reason, can NOT get a letter of release (LOR) from my employer? Is there ANY chance that the Korean or American airports detain me?
All other posts concerning breaking contracts seem concerned with returning to Korea to teach within the same 1-year period. I have no plans of being in Korea for at least a year after next spring, so do I have anything to worry about?
I cannot be in Korea anytime after June '07, so I have to know I can legally leave. I'll recruit my replacement myself if at all possible, but I just need to know I can leave 100% - even if my employer never gives a LOR.
Thanks, sorry if this is a stupid question. |

LOR is only for if you want to get a new job on the same visa, without it you are required to leave the country. |

1) you can't begin the visa process without a contract.
2) ofcourse you can leave. At worst, just give notice 30 days before you leave and quit, completely legal. Even if you did a runner (DON'T!!!) they won't stop you for that. |
