The Herald school has an ad here on Dave's. Has anyone ever worked for them? They have posted a link to several videos showing the school and housing. The ad looks good other than having teachers living one floor above the school which makes me think there may be privacy issues. Any information would be great. |

| I haven't worked there yet but I did speak to one of their teachers who acts as a part-time recruiter. He was very friendly and informative. Also the guy in charge has a huge list of recommendations with e-mail addresses, something no other recruiter has shown me. They seem to have a bad rep on here though. |

I can't imagine living within a kilometer of the hagwon.
If that makes you hesitate, do reconsider. And with other coteachers there?
It will feel like you're always at work.
Nothing feels better in unwinding after a day's work than walking the ten minutes it takes to get home. The real sense of distance and break from it all is psychological, and more than just that.
Good luck whatever. |

I worked for a branch of the Herald for 6 days.. then I refused to put up with any more of their crap and walked.
For general breaches of contract and violations of the law, it rates right up there with SLP.
Check your branch out THOROUGHLY.
Ask to speak to MORE THAN ONE teacher via e-mail (when the boss isn't looking over their shoulder).
ASK specifically if they deduct and pay for (you get the booklet) NHIC medical, pension, OVERTIME (do they really pay it or avoid it through creative book-keeping).
Do you get credit for hours that you would have worked on your holidays or red days (national holidays) or you still have to put in your full 120 hours even though there was a red day?
How long and how may classes per week are you required to teach.
160 x 40 minute classes is only 120 CONTACT hours per month.
How do the holidays work? 2 calendar weeks or just 10 days at the schools convenience? The Herald I was at thought that 10 days included the weekends (so only 6 working days).
They are on the blacklists for a good reason.
side note:
KHREPORTER... are you listening !!!!! |

| I would not want to live in the same building as my school. |

I worked there a few years ago when it was still Kid's Herald School. Overall, I had a really good experience but there were a few glitches, especially at the end of the contract. If they've fixed the glitches (no medical, pension were the serious ones) I would recommend this specific Herald School (Sanbon) as a good place to work. The academic supervisor is amazing and has set up a really good curriculum. The students actually really learn here!! Amazing but true!!
About the apartments on the 5th floor... there are no privacy issues and it makes your breaks/lunch time really convenient. Really. |

OF COURSE a recruiter is "friendly" and "informative"- BEFORE you sign a contract.
You haven't worked at a Herald School? There's plenty of info about Herald schools on this website and others- almost all is bad. Do a search of "Herald" and check it out yourself. Herald schools are all over the blacklists.

| Yeah, I have heard terrible things about Kid's Herald, if it is the same place. I saw their post on here. The apts look like dumps and living right upstairs from the school - you know there would be privacy issues. I don't even like living in the same building with other teachers nevermind the same building as the school. Good luck though. |
