For me, it's the food. (Surprise!)

I've known for quite a while that I would probably be moving, so I've stopped buying anything except daily necessities and have been making meals out of whatever was on hand. The freezer is almost empty now, which is a good thing, but should I eat those last few strips of bacon so I don't have to move them (and risk them thawing and spoiling) or should I save them until I know where I can get a new supply?

It's Tuesday morning and I'd really like some orange juice, but I don't think I can drink a big bottle by Friday and the supa here at the complex is out of the little bottles. Should I say 'screw a balanced diet' and eat a can of corn for supper just so I don't have to lug it to the other end of the country?

Anyway, off for a first visit to my new home and then rush back for the movers at 7AM Friday. What a way to spend my only vacation time since February.

Packing is a real pain in the a$$. However, what really grinds my gears is when you spend a good amount of time cleaning the place you're moving from (I know I probably shouldn't, but I just can't help it), only to be faced with an even bigger cleaning task at your new place. For me, the worst part about moving is the increasingly uncomfortable hallway/stairwell passes and comments you exchange with the people helping you out as the day goes on.

Hire movers, that's the easy part. I just hate when I get to my new apartment and have to set up all my stuff again.

I too hate the inevitable cleaning-up after moving *in.*

However, the worst part for me is packing up boxes and boxes, thinking I'm done, and then opening a cupboard or closet to find that I was dead wrong. I also hate trying to sort out what to keep and what to trash.

Cleaning the oven afterward sucks too. You know what? The whole thing is an ordeal.

Packing everything up. It's such a tedious job. I finally have to face my 'drawers of shame' and sort out all the junk I've been throwing in them for a year or so.

Korean moving guys are awesome though. Little 60kg guys who can carry our huge Tromm washing machine on their back up 4 flights without breaking a sweat.

Don't pack your own stuff. Hire moving people. They come to your place, pack all your stuff and then take it to your next apartment and unpack it for you. You don't need boxes, and you don't break a sweat. The only thing you need to pack yourself are your breakables/valuables.

Yeah, deciding where to put everything, then FINDING it is the worst part for me! Fortunately for me, the last time I had to move, it was only up one floor in the same building...same lay-out! I just put everything where it was in the old place!!

WOW, has the cost of OJ inflated THAT much??? Personally, I hate the packing and wondering if I will have enough space to fit everything...especially the shoes...they've filled the closet and are out into the open space...

I hate getting to your new place and realising that you lost an integral part to your Italian espresso machine that is the center of your life and that can ONLY be ordered through 4 distibuters, all of which happen to be in the States, and all of which have decided that anyone outside their wonderfully honest and perfectly behaved country is planning on cheating them and causing a multitude of problems for them so they therefore won't ship to 'you people.' (who is 'you people?' our 'brown folk' neighbours?) Evil or Very Mad

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. That was in no way meant to be American bashing. I'm only bashing the ones who base their business on Internet sales and then cut out the rest of the world because anywhere outside the US is Nigeria to them..... Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I love moving. I definitely hate many parts of it, but the excitement of getting to a new place and being able to start again makes up for it for me.

Seems like some Americans are ultra paranoid. Some Ebay sellers won't even ship to Canada. What's up with that???

My favourite ones are the eBay sellers who shout NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING on their terms and conditions, and then give shipping prices for Canada.
