Has anyone had any experience getting a quicker and dirtier way of getting a background check done from Korea than going through the RCMP? Through the RCMP, it takes 150 days!!

I don't have an ARC card in Korea, so I don't think I can get it done at a Korean police station....

150 days? Thank god my dad worked for the OPP and just walked in and stamped it and signed it himself.

If you happen to be going home, you can get a basic check done at your local station in about 30 minutes.

If you require the full background check then it takes 14-30 days and requires your prints.

If you want it done from here, 5-6 months.

You can get your KOREAN police check (for your time spent here in Korea) anytime. You do not need your ARC.

I needed one done for a public school position that I started about six months ago. I visited the local police station to have my fingerprints taken and then sent it off to the RCMP. I just received my criminal record check about 2 months ago. It does take a while.

I got a basic check done from here through my hometown police station in Canada via email & fax. Quick & easy, & it satisfied my employers (epik).

I had to do this to. The city I'm from wouldn't let me get a criminal background check when I was home for a visit since I hadn't been living there for 2 straight years. This was a new rule. So I had to do it through the RCMP. Although it says 150+days, for me I sent it off the fingerprint form at the end of February and received it back at the beginning of April, maybe 50 days total. Guess it depends on how busy they are.

Call the embassy & have them send you the fingerprint form since they must be taken on the official RCMP form. Take it to your local police station and have them fingerprint you & then mail it off to the RCMP. You'll need to enclose a pre-paid self addressed stamped courier envelope if you want it couriered back otherwise they'll send it regular mail. You'll need to get a money order to pay the fee which I think was $25 per record check.

I had the RCMP routine done while I was in Korea (twice!!) and both times they took about 2 months to get back to me.

Just make sure your prints are taken well and are not smudged--which is what the screw-up was for me the first time.
