I am bidding on a luxury hotel in Thailand for 200 bucks/7 nights. Seems to good to be true.

Anyone have any experiences with using EBAY?

I buy things like shirts, sports coats and hydro equipment and DVD's but not vacation rentals.

Well, I am the highest bidder so now I am nervous about it.

It's a time share with a 90 minute presentation that we have to go to during the 7 days. Is it worth it? I didn't think I would win it at 200 bucks.

Those things are usually FREE if you go to the SALES presentation... they need the captive audience.....

Really? For 7 days in a beautiful resort? I think I have seen the ads, but i never believed it. 90 mins doesn't seem to be a bad deal?

I used to get snagged by those in Mexico. I'd not go. Get a bohemian type hostel for some sound mind.

Yea sure, check out South Park's Asspen episode.

I used to think it I could easily deflect the salepersons pressure. I always did but it wasn't easy or a good experience. Way not worth the free lunch.

random ebay tip: If you're going to be at your computer when the auction ends, never bid before the last possible moment. Doing so only encourages others to bid against you.

Yea, it's called sniping- jumping in at the last second to get in the last bid. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Point is, on any item worth bidding on, there are probably 5-10 bidders doing the same thing- waiting around with their fingers on the "place bid" key.

Another tip. Open up two windows on the same item. Then you have twice the chance of getting in at the end. (if thats your style.)

When I find something I really want to buy, I figure out what's the highest price I'm willing to pay and then bid something in that neighborhood. If someone's trying to overbid me with the minimum, they usually wear out after upping their offer by $1 each time. Then, if someone comes in and beats my offer, at least I know they paid more than I was willing to give...and I didn't have to sit in front of my computer sniping back and forth as the seconds tick away.

I just sold a 3 month old Toyota FJ cruiser on Ebay for $29,800. It was a great experience, the buyer came up from Tucson and looked at it for about three minutes, then asked if he could use my pc to hit the buy it now option.

I broke even in case you were wondering!

I place my maximum bid when I can't be in front of my computer when the auction ends - like when I am traveling.

At home however, I will sometimes even wake up at 4am to place a last minute bid on an item. If the item is really hot, you'll be competing against 4 or more last minute guys. Can be thrilling or disappointing depending on the outcome. Smile

I don't want to hijack the thread for this...

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/

Thats a good site, check it out --> HINT: If you buy the FJ Cruiser, do NOT order it with ATRAC (Kind of like rear diff lock) as it is 3500 dollars extra, instead - go to toyota dealer, ask to order the switch that goes on the dash panel, plug it in and now you have ATRAC for only 65 dollars!

Good stuff! There is a thread on that site that walks you through, very simple and easy!
