What have the "majority" of people in theUK responded to this BBC poll thingy?? Looking through it, there seems to be a lot of frustration, but I feel there is support for multiculturalism, as long as there is some intergration, rather than isolationism. |
On what do you base this rather optimistic assumption? |

let me guess, they were all spanish speakers right? |

Nope, actually no spanish...muslims with 3-4 kids in tow with very little English abilities. I on numerous occasions tried to talk with them to be friendly. |
:cough: *beep* :cough:
Now if you lived in the area of Dearborn, MI I MIGHT believe you, or even parts of NYC, but anywhere else? No. |
FWIW, check this link out listing Muslim population by metropolitan region:
http://mumford.albany.edu/census/BlackWhite/muslimsortlists/muslim-sort.htm
Muslims are by no means the exclusive domain of Dearborn (who are mainly middle eastern Muslims) or NYC (which actually has fewer Muslims than LA). |

eh ok. how is this related to any of what I said? My comments, on this thread, were centered on the USA, not the UK.
I am very aware of that. I was under the impression he was refering to Arabs, and in the next post he did say "middle eastern." As you can see in your own stats, the Detroit metro area is clearly #1 when it comes to Arab Americans.
Chapel Hill, the only city in NC that I could find on the list, was #39; 43rd in the category of "middle eastern", and #39 in north african. A whopping 9,500 muslims in the entire metro area, 7K of which are arabs. |

DD - Israel is Jewish only state, a home for the Jewish Race, a home for the Jewish Religion all run by Halaca. The Jews says they are favored by God, that they are the chosen ones. The Jews according to Jews, are the master race. Tolerance DD?

Master race (merde, I cant find the right buttons on this french keyboard!!!). question mark, question mark....
Every culture has its share of bigots, you are intimately aware of that. Israel too . But to say all and the whole nation is such, is repellent. You are like the guy who says that because sheep shit, they are dirty...........
Please reread your sentence again and then get thyself to a decultification centre.....you are in danger of becoming Timothy McVeigh (who had some good arguements, but was just too damn stupid to every see them to any good ends.....such is the labryinth of life.) |

People complaining about the current state of affairs, and saying mulitculturalism wont work while immigrants are isolated. |

but dont you think the meanings and semantics are all distorted though. for me there is multi culturalism and multi racialism and the two are entirely different from each other but are constantly misconstrued as the same. for cultures to literally intercede with one another is virtually impossible, an oxymoron thats why its impossible for a jew doning a kippah to walk in a muslim ghetto (for arguments sake). the minorities that do the best are normally the ones that conform to the hosts' rites and ways as best they can and who keep their religion or whatever sepearte from their public / professional life. you will forever find up and down the uk a black dude a white dude or whatever being friends, socialising and engaging in harmless recreational activity but if they are disposed to a certain culture or set of beliefs that entirely governs every last inch of their life like muslims then, imo, its altogether unlikely.
incidentally what i didnt like about the thread as a whole is the further distortion of the subject/topic and a reversal of discourse from muslim (you may or may not agree but lets face it that is the group where most of the problems lie at the moment) to asian (as has been said hindus, non hindu practicing indians, sihks et all have an altogether different social standing in British society to muslims) to immigrants (i bet you recent eu migrants and eastern europeans have a better standard of living then many muslims, undeniably contributing more to the fabric of society then crying bloody murder every time they see Borat). Ridiculous!
if multiculturalism worked then ruth kelly would not have had to make the speech she did yesterday. there is a clash of cultures in the uk and the government knows it. but when ever they find somethign they dont understand they simply set up a 'commission' to deal with it. just wait till somethig of the magnitude like the LA Riots errupts. if multiculturalism worked then we wouldnt be having this thread.

you do realise that not all Jews, practicing or not, believe this do you? i have a lot of jewish friends and they would be offended by this so called belief that they supposedly hold.

Because you singled me out with that link. Just wondering why.. perhaps you meant to direct someone else towards that link and not me. |

I'm of a mixed mind on this one. |
I'm not. I stayed next to Mosque in Damascus, and the call to prayer at 5 or 5:15 or whatever ungodly hour [pun intended] it was not cool for me.
But it's the Middle East, am I gonna complain?
Not a chance.
But this is definitely a NIMBY issue, literally.
If the entire neighbourhood unanimously signs-off on changing the noise by-law, fine.
Otherwise this shouldn't be allowed, IMO.
But yeah, can't say I entirely trust that Frontpage article without more details on the particulars. |

Yeah, I guess that, unlike turbans on cops and communion wine for kids(my other examples), allowing calls to prayer actually inconveniences people. I wonder if the Muslims made some argument like "well, you allow churches to ring their bells on Sunday morning, so..."
I still don't think I'd classify it in quite the same league as gender-segregated swimming, though, which seems to me to strike right at the heart of egalitarian values. |

right.. your link was about integration in the uk. my comment towards you had nothing to do with integration. You stated earlier that muslims (perhaps not most, it isn't clear) immigrated to spread Islam. I strongly doubt it. Your link did not address that, hence my confusion. |
