The Most Perfect Song Ever Made!
YOUVE GOT A FRIEND (Carole King)
When youre down and troubled
and need some love and care
and nothin nothin is goin right
close your eyes and think of me
and soon Ill be there
to brighten up even your darkest night
You just call out my name
and you know wherever I am
Ill come runnin to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you have to do is call
and Ill be there yeah
Youve got a friend
If the sky above you
grows dark and full of clouds
and that ol north wind begins to blow
keep your head together
and call my name out loud
soon youll hear me knocking at your door
You just call out my name
and you know wherever I am
Ill come runnin to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you have to do is call
and Ill be there yeah
Youve got a friend
Now aint it good to know
that youve got a friend
when people can be so cold?
Theyll hurt you, yes and desert you
and take your soul if you let them
oh, but dont you let them
You just call out my name
and you know wherever I am
Ill come runnin to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you have to do is call
and Ill be there yeah
Youve got a friend

Good thread idea. It is very difficult, however. What are the various criteria for choosing?
The most perfect song ever......?
"Happy Birthday To You" |
There's no criteria. What do you think is the most perfect song? It's a purely subjective question. |
OK eamo, thanks for the clarification. My choice:
Simple Man by Bad Company |
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Simple Man |

| Depends how you see perfect. For me the most perfectly composed pop song is not the song I enjoy the most, definitely. But it's just got to be "Yesterday" by Paul, er, the Beatles..."Every Breath You Take" comes close ... |

This song. |
Agreed.
Also
Winter's Come and Gone - Gillian Welsh (I could listen to this one song for eternity)
What will you Say - Jeff Buckley
Kick out the Jams - MC5
What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong (a: did he write it? b: I don't really like it anymore but it is perfect).
In My Room - Beach Boys (Well, Brian Wilson...)
Fruit Pickers - Ridley Bent |

L'Aprs-midi d'un faune ("The Afternoon of a Faun)...by Claude Debussy. Not a song as such but definitely an example of perfect music.
Just to clarify.
I think most posters on this thread have got the point, but, some seem to be waylaid.
The most perfect song ever does not really mean your favorite songs. In a subjective way it does. But I'm asking you all to be objective. It's about those songs that you have heard which seem just right.
Example?
Okay. I think many songs by The Smiths and The Strokes are fantastic songs, but are they perfect? Do they wash over you effortlessly? Or is there something about that song which takes the shine off slightly? That's what we don't want.
Reserve your judgement for a song that you are so bloody sure you will listen to the rest of your life you will bet your Grandma's life on it. |
