Thats my plan for next year. I've been doing Muay THai for 6 months and I love the sport. |

Sounds like a decent plan.
I wouldn't, however, go to Rawai in Phuket. I've been to Muay Thai gyms all around Thailand and it was one of the worse ones, I'd say. (Not 'worst', mind you, just not one of the better ones.) A little too touristy for my liking.
The one that I recommend is Jungle Gym on Koh Phang An. I've just sent another buddy there and he's having a banger of a time. For my money, it was the best Muay Thai training that I ever received and I've been in it for quite a few years, so hopefully that makes a difference.
I found the gym in Haad Rin to be a little touristy, too, but the quality of training was still much higher. In Thong Sala, I was doing privates and had the place to myself most days: excellent stuff.
Here's their website: http://www.junglegym.co.th/index.php?sect=links.
Besides excellent Muay Thai, Koh Phang An has to be one of the most chilled out islands in the country and it's next door to Koh Tao if you enjoy snorkelling/scuba diving.
BTW, Junior and Wrench, Have you guys ever trained in Thailand before?
EDIT:
I almost forgot about the Seychelles suggestion: it's way more expensive than Thailand, so if you want to stretch your buck, go to Thailand. But, that being said, the Seychelles are something to behold, so maybe they're worth the price; up to you. |

Right. good advice. Although meeting new people & socialising would be part of the enjoyment for me.

No. Although in past years I've done a little boxing & Karate, I'd be totally new to this and would do it as a new challenge as well as a physical detox from smoking, drinking and air pollution. My preparation beforehand would amount to a couple months in the gym.
BTW llama/wrench: where do you train in seoul? |

Brazil. If you want to train, do capoeira. Great food, great beer (not good for detox) and amazing women. Way superior to Korea in everyway exept for the money. |

I never did capoeira, just watched it, looks like a good workout though. I taught English in Brazil. Beaches are spectacular, friendly people and you really can't describe the women unless you actually go there. I have never, and I'm not exagerrating, met anyone who has been to both countries that hasn't chosen Brazilian women by a longshot over Korean women. |

Junior,
I don't currently train anywhere... well, I train, but that's just by my lonesome and that doesn't count for much. I'm way out in the sticks, so Seoul - on a regular basis - is not an option. However, if you'd like to send a PM, I'd be more than happy to make arrangements to come in to Seoul for a little training; I'll go a long way for my combat sports.
Let me know what you think about that and I'll look forward to a get together in Seoul.
On another note, Koh Phang An might not be the best place for a detox. For that matter, Koh Phuket might not be, either. In both places you'll have ample opportunity to indulge in vice, so you might want to try Koh Samui. There's a few yoga type resorts where you will live a total detox experience, so you could do that and then head over for a little training after you've gotten over the DT's. Of course, you'd always have the opportunity to escape the yoga 'retreat' and imbibe, so no matter where you go, it'll still be up to you.
I'll watch for a PM if you're interested,

No I haven't trained in Thailand I want to. I have lost about 70 pounds in a year I want to loose 30 more this year. Then I will hit 50% weight loss. Trying to get my BF pre-uni of 12-15%. I love the sport I train about an hour a day then another hour on physical conditioning.
Man that place looks awsome.. I wanna GO but can't |
