Going for my visa run, I want to do a bit of shopping for japanese food (can I bring them back to Seoul?) and electronics (need new headphones etc).
Does anyone have any experiences shopping in Fukuoka? Many thanks. |

Fukuoka is good for shopping.
Have a walk around Canal City.
The downtown has lots of good shops too.
It is an easy city to find your way around on foot.
Very relaxing and laid back after Seoul or Busan. |

Take a jetfoil out to the far side of the harbour. There's an aquarium there. I didn't go in because I went too late in the day and didn't have enough time before the last ferry back (I think that was the reason, can't remember now).
You can catch the jetboats out by the tower and if I recall correctly they'll return you there or to the main port. |

BEACHES!
Particularly since they are SO close to the Korean embassy! There is also a Hard Rock Cafe near the Korean Embassy which is strangely more affordable and more filling than most Japanese food options.
There is also an extremely large building near the Korean Embassy that you can't miss.. its near the beach.. you can take the elevator to the top and look all across the city from its views. Don't miss that!
If you still have time, then Canal City, of course. |

fukuoka is awesome.
there's a hard rock cafe right near the embassy.
if you're prepared to get out of town a little, there's a massive buddha in the hillside. you can get there by train and take a walk up the hill.
i've forgotten the name of the place. i'll find it and post again. |

ahhh ... found it.
sasaguri is the name of the small town just outside of fukuoka. you can take a train there and it's only about 15 minutes away.
get out of the station, turn right and walk up the hill. you'll find the buddha in the hillside.
it's supposed to be the world's biggest reclining buddha.
there are some pictures of it here.
