i was walking out of gekko's last night when the bouncer, the tall one... about 6'2" i'd guess... attacked me. then the other bouncer grabbed my neck and choked me. or i think it was the guy behind me who choked me. i was dropping my head so he wouldn't keep hitting me, so it could have been a front choke. i couldn't breathe. anyway, i grabbed wildly for a leg so i could twist out of the chokehold. the next thing i know, i'm laying on the ground and the guy from behind me is passed out bleeding from the back of the head. he was bleeding a lot. i thought he was faking it so i'd get in trouble being the foreigner, then i saw the blood and i thought he was dead. he got stitched up and is ok.
i spend the next six hours with them at the police station. i can't press charges because i hurt the other guy and if i press charges, they'll press charges, and the cops were very much on their side. being an american, there didn't seem to be anything i could say right. it was utterly ridiculous though. check it out. the reason he gave for starting the fight was that i was "crowding him". i didn't even notice him, as i was walking out of the bar and headed downstairs and there were a few people by the door that i was trying to get past, and i was probably staring at the ground as usual. in fact, it was a half hour of talking with the cops before i even ascertained which one hit me.
anyway, i have a broken nose which i'll need surgery for.
i hope that guy gets fired. in fact, i hope both of them get fired. i hope noone ever goes to gekkos again either, but i'm sure this won't have any effect on their profit margins.
this happened last night and, since i spent the night in the police station and this morning in the hospital, i haven't slept yet. right now i'm eating the first meal i've had in about 20 hours, too.
i think i'm going to leave korea. this place is nothing good.
if anyone wants to point out the irony of choosing this name just one day before having the bones of my face smashed, i won't be laughing. |

I hope it works out for you, and I hope that your nose heals straight.
That being said, I worked in the clubs for years, and this story feels like it is missing something. |

no, man. you could tell at the police station that they knew they messed up and were just trying not to get into trouble. my interpreter was pretty cool and she basically gave me 3 options. one, let it drop. two, i press charges, they press charges, and i'll probably win, but we'd be there until the judge showed, and i'd already been there for 6 hours. three, everyone sues everyone. i told them to drop it, and everyone said ok.
sometimes, shit just happens for no good reason. maybe it was a racial thing, maybe he thought i was trying to start something, although he didn't say that. he specifically said that i was crowding him. maybe he's just a jackhole. i'm going with jackhole. he kept hitting me after the other guy had me restrained and choked. when we hit the ground, i was expecting him to start kicking me in the ribs. it was serious ghetto shit, and it only stopped because his friend was out cold and bleeding a lot.

Your story REEKS of bull****. Another typical reason why Korean media continues to write such negative things about foreigners in this country, especially young drunken Americans. You come over here to do nothing but provide substandard education and use all of your time getting drunk and partying.
I personally hope that you have a messed up face for the rest of your life as a very visual reminder of your American arrogance here in Korea. I am on the side of the bouncer in this one. Reading your story it is obvious that you are lying. Hopefully you will leave as soon as possible, as you said, and rid this country of your unwanted presence.
Go back to America where you belong with all the other redneck drunken idiots.

Not very drunk.... sigh. So sad... Are you leaving though? You should probably go back to America if you want the surgery done right. Otherwise, when you are under the knife, the spiteful Korean doctors may have fun carving more than you bargained for.
So please leave.

Admit defeat? Thats what every testosterone dripping Korean male wants.. that you run along back to miguk.
Best revenge is to make sure you walk in there next time with a Korean stunna on your arm.
I think I may have seen the tail end of it. Did it continue onto the street beside burger king at about 9pm? The cop car pulled up around then.
And jeonjumichael: The twisted anti-foreigner sentiment over here needs no encouragement from you. Maybe you'll swallow your words when you get targetted next time? |

You sure are reading a lot into his one post. He's young, providing substandard education, getting drunk and partying. You must be psychic. Perhaps a Korean fortune teller?

Reading his story you know he's lying and don't believe him. You haven't heard the bouncers' stories, but you believe them. You are Korean. |

"Please leave" seems to sum up the feeling of 99% of Korean males towards foreigners of any description.
Maybe we should apply that sentiment ot the korean community in LA and London? |

I am not Korean, but I sure empathize more with them than idiot Americans who come over here, foul up the country, disrespect everything and who are only here to party. Just stay home. |

i don't think i'll be able to sleep. i can't really breathe comfortably. the bouncers don't have a different story. they just want to blame me for hurting the guy behind me. by the way, not that drunk meant 2 beers and 2 shots of whiskey. although that's entirely beside the point. even if i was crawling out on my hands and knees, i wouldn't have deserved it.
and what makes you so much better than everyone else? what's so bad in your life that you talk like that about a guy you never even met? |

Not to say (or even imply) that this was all the OP's fault, but a person has to be geared for potential trouble if he/she is Itaewon on a Saturday night. I don't mind the place in the morning or afternoon, and I go there fairly frequently for the food, but I clear out before Friday or Saturday night rolls in. Perhaps the OP wasn't asking for trouble, perhaps he wasn't at fault, but he certainly used poor judgement in where he spent his Saturday night.
On one hand, I want to recommend that anyone seeking a quiet pint just stay in their local neighborhood and reduce the risk of this sort of nonsense. But then, Itaewon is to Korea what Africa is to the world: no one really pays attention to the crazy goings-on down there. If all the nutcases were drank in their own areas, we'd probably just see more of this stuff in the news. |
