Well, that came sooner than I expected- but it is the outcome I expected.

The US media are nothing but clowns these days, as a whole. Why did this guy get this kind of coverage before he was charged? The 24 hour networks probably ran focus groups and found the Ramsey case still had good traction.

What hysteria in the US these days. I hate to be going back to that, and hope I won't be there too long. I soooooo don't look forward to being there for the election cycle this fall. Evil or Very Mad

In case of a national emergency in Korea and US expats had to be evacuated, the US government charges its citizens. Especially as Karr flew business class, he should have to foot the bill.

They were just saying on the news (reading his emails to the prof) and he said, "Just seeing her little body in that wooden casket made me want to jump in there, lay next to her and make love to her" that, along with the other emails he was sending the prof about the little girls in Thailand and how he wanted to have sex with them. If all this isn't true, I have no business calling him a kid molester, but if it is true then he's a sick cat who needs to be locked up.

The important point for all of us is that there is nothing about this that in any way, shape or form will come out positive for the bulk of the people over here in Asia teaching English and trying to do it in a professional way.

Whether the guy's a nutcase child-molesting murderer, or just a garden variety nutcase who inserted a fantasy in his mind and made it real for himself, fact is, he was teaching English to kids at professional schools - kids whose parents love them and deserve to know that nutcases are not sitting in a room with them for hours at a time.

Is there someone to blame in this? Sure. The immigration authorities, anyone who stamps a visa saying someone can work with kids in this part of the world. All it would have taken was a phone call to the US Embassy, most likely, or a phone call to particular police jurisdiction in N California, to find that this guy had once been arrested for having kidporn on his computer. That's all.

But, um, guess who WILL get blamed, if the Korean media decides to take it between the teeth and shake it a bit? YOU will (if you are male) and so will I.
