Do you feel comfortable with this guys overall check out of your pc? If he is saying your video card and motherboard is fried (which I doubt because I am assuming you are still using your pc to update us on here), try replacing your video card first. Then, if the problem persists, I would say go for the motherboard. Both will be cheap (well....depending on what you want).
If your knowledge isn't limited, I would recommend going into the bios and performing a system test. This should tell you if your board is having a problem. |

| Yea, that's true, everything still works on my machine(including watching movies, etc) as long as I keep my room fan on it and keep it cool. If I take the fan away, it gets super hot and within an hour blue screens and shuts down. BTW, good to see you back cubanlord. |

Thanks. I was busy (still am: started my masters, writing some papers, studying, putting my pc together, helping the new teachers at my school, etc.) and will be for another few more days.
Personally, I think that guy (whoever looked at your pc) is full of poo poo. I think Demo got it right when he said you may need to apply more heat jelly. Though, if the only area that is heating up is your video card, then just take the heatsink on it off, re-jelly it, and put it back on. Also, run that test in the BIOS. Your BIOS will tell you your CPU temperature. This way, you can rule out the motherboard and CPU.
If you have another slot for your video card, try that. This will definitely rule out the "faulty" pci slot.
Let us know what happens. |

| Yea, the video card has a working fan. The technician came by today and said the video card and motherboard were fried. To replace them he said it would cost about 200k, so thinking about just buying a new computer at Yongsan or something. |
You can get an spanking new motherboard for that price. |

| Well, I think I'm just gonna buy a new computer. Is Yongsan still the best place for that? I am looking o spend 400-500k, just for the box. I have a nice monitor and everything so don't need that stuff. I know want specs I want except for the processor. Was thinking about an AMD machine. Any suggestions? |

are you gaming? if so, how hard core? Are you doing anything that is graphic/power intensive?
If not, then any old processor will take care of your needs. I'll look some up and get back to you. |

No, not a gaymer at all. Just download and watch a lot of movies, store a lot of pics from the digital camera, blog a lot (though not recently), and the normal stuff. I think I'm gonna build my own though with parts off of Danawa. |

Update:
Well guys, I bought a new computer in Yongsan on Saturday. Picked out the parts I wanted, and they put it together for me. Cost about 425, so I think it's a pretty good deal. This is what I got.
Processor: AMD64 3500+
HD: Seagate Sata 160gb
Motherboard: Asus M2N-E
Video Card: ATI Radeon 264mb
Ram: 1gb DDRII Samsung
Power Supply: 350 watts
I installed Windows XP Pro on there with no problem. Here are some things I noticed.
I am logging in now as Administator, do I want that? I have a feeling I don't. If I don't, how do I change that?
I burned files (pics, movies, music) to a DVD from my old computer before I threw it away, and while copying them to my new computer, it seemed really slow to me. Sometimes, I even had to Alt+Ctrl+Del. I looked at the processes, and the System Idle Process was at like 98%. What is up with that?
Final question, this might have something to do with logging in as Administrator, but there is no Sleep mode. Only Restart or Shut Down. Sleep is there, but not highlighted.
Anyone got some ideas about these questions? Thanks |

Drivers?
Usually when I re-install XP some drivers are missing.
Not too sure though. You DVD drive should be able to communicate with your HDD without any weird drivers. |

"System Idle Process" is the clown juggling, entertaining your bored CPU.
Logging in as Admin is a fine thing. |

| Drivers eh? Oh yea, there is also no sound, guess that is a driver problem too. Where should I find these drivers? How do I know what is missing? |

Go to your mainboard makers' website and search for your mainboard. There will be a list of downloads for it, and there is probably one for the sound drivers, assuming you have onboard sound.
Download the drivers (in a .zip file probably) and save it to your hard drive. Extract the files and then go to the control panel, system, device manager and click the sound "+" sign. See a yellow exclamation mark? Double click that, go to the drver tab at the top and install the drivers through that.
Or, maybe the drivers have an .exe file in the .zip. Double click that and it will do all installing automatically.
Again, all of this assumes you have onboard sound. If not, you will need to buy a soundcard.
If you need more help, please post the exact maker and model of your mainboard.
EDIT: You did post that already. Sorry.

They have new audio drivers. |
